About the Position

The Construction Estimator works out of Stansell Electric’s Nashville office. The Construction Estimator must show work, market, and budget skills commensurate to the satisfactory completion of position’s primary duties and responsibilities. Advancement opportunities are available by advancing to more senior positions or through transfer to skilled trades.


How You’ll Make a Difference

o Analyze drawings and specifications as well as understand contractual terms and conditions to compile accurate cost data for construction estimates.

o Attend pre-bid meetings, interact with customers, and visit jobsites to obtain data for specialized scopes of work.

o Perform takeoffs, detail & compile organized estimates in an accurate but timely matter for unit priced, lump sum, and negotiated project opportunities.

o Work with vendors and subcontractors to secure quotations; analyze and coordinate to ensure contract compliance and best fit/value.

o Review bids with leader, prepare proposal with detailed scope & clarifications to customer.

o Maintain relationships with customers, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and employees of Stansell Electric.

o Analyze data for projects.

o Attend trade organization events.

o Develop budgets for acquired projects for execution by delivery teams.

o Breakdown estimate from estimating systems/software.

o Enter budget into accounting system, with awareness of labor and quantity tracking and accuracy.

o Prepare newly secured projects for transition to delivery teams/project managers.

o Lead a transition meeting to transfer knowledge to project manager and answer questions.

o Attend pre-construction meetings and work closely with the project manager throughout the transitional period as well as throughout the completion of the project as needed.

o Assist project manager with change orders throughout the project.

o Monitor jobs in progress and check in with Project Mangers to assist in solutions to issues that arise and help identify potential change orders.

o Attend post-job meetings and collaborate with delivery team on lessons learned and continued project success.

o Compare budgets vs. actual costs, analyze data and utilize it for future estimates, sharing this data with peers.


Smarts, Skills, And Physical Requirements

  • This position largely consists of sedentary work which involves sitting most of the time. Occasionally position will require exerting up to 10 pounds of force and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Physical Activities required by this position include: Fingering (picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling), Talking (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word), Hearing (perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction), and Repetitive Motions (substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers)
  • The position requires one to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • This position is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
