Hearing Specialist / Paralegal - Long Term Contract 8-12 months or longer.


Must be local to Los Angeles, CA


Must be proficient in Zoom.


ADR Experience a huge plus.


Major Purpose:

This position performs a variety of duties, including applying substantial analytical skills to research, review, analyze, and process legal documents such as pleadings. This is junior-level professional work in which incumbents are learning their assigned roles, attaining new skills, and working under direct supervision.


Essential Job Functions:

Attends and assists Hearing Moderator with zoom hearings. Accepting attendees into the zoom call, setting up break out sessions etc.


Analyzes initial pleadings, determines proper jurisdiction, enters information into case processing system, and prepares cases for service.


Processes initial claim deficiencies which may include drafting deficiency notice.

Analyzes and reviews subsequent pleadings, including answers, counterclaims, cross-claims, and third-party claims.


Re-serves claims if original service is unsuccessful.


Reviews all motions, solicits responses, and prepares documentation for submission to arbitrators.


Makes written recommendations for administrative motions such as hearing location, consolidation and severance and refers substantive issues to panel.


Assesses filing fees, member surcharges and processing fees at various stages of the case and makes written recommendations on fee waiver requests.


Reviews challenges to arbitrators, solicits responses, and makes written recommendations on the decision to manager.


Closes settled/withdrawn cases within expected timeframes.

Reviews and processes mail.


Determines proper composition of panel, generates list of arbitrators, reviews arbitrator information for conflicts, and eliminates arbitrators with conflicts.


Responds to inquiries, orally or in writing, on FINRA arbitration policies and procedures, service of pleadings and status of cases.


Maintains electronic and physical file and enters all case-related information in the case processing system in accordance with established protocols.


Education/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred. Associate’s degree or a paralegal certificate will be considered. One year of legal office or securities-related experience. Familiarity using a desktop computer with the full suite of electronic office applications. Excellent organizational ability, interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills.


Working Conditions:

Work is normally performed in an office environment. Occasional travel may be required. Some overtime may be

required.
