About Savage Search Associates
Savage Search Associates, a premier search and recruitment firm based in Southern California, is excited to partner with one of our favorite food distribution clients to identify an experienced Senior Category Specialist or Senior Buyer. This opportunity is hybrid, working from home a few days per week as an added bonus Ideally, the candidate will have a background in food distribution and a deep understanding of frozen meats, though we're open to exploring other relevant categories.
Role Overview
This is a hybrid, full-time position based in Chino, CA, offering the perfect blend of flexibility and onsite engagement. The Senior Category Specialist will play a key role in driving category growth through expert category management, in-depth procurement strategy, and data-driven analytics. You'll negotiate high-impact contracts, manage supplier relationships, and work cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure the company maintains its competitive edge in the food distribution sector.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Category Management: Own your category, driving growth and profitability through strategic procurement and market insights.
- Data-Driven Insights: Use your sharp analytical skills to interpret market trends, identify opportunities, and optimize purchasing decisions.
- Vendor Relations: Build and maintain strong partnerships with vendors, ensuring consistent quality, competitive pricing, and efficient delivery.
- Contract Negotiation: Utilize your negotiation expertise to secure favorable terms that positively impact the bottom line.
- Collaborative Approach: Work hand-in-hand with internal teams, from sales to operations, to align category strategies with overall business goals.
- Growth Opportunities: As the company continues to expand, you’ll have the chance to shape and influence future categories.
What You’ll Bring
- 3-5 years of experience in Category Management and Procurement within the food distribution industry.
- Strong understanding of frozen meats (or related food categories).
- Proven analytical skills to support data-driven decision-making.
- Effective communication and relationship-building abilities to manage internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Expertise in contract negotiation and vendor management.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
