Risk & Safety Specialist


Role Description


The Risk & Safety Specialist will play a pivotal role in bolstering risk management efforts by identifying and evaluating potential risks within the Authority. This includes conducting compliance audits for the Operations Department, overseeing the Authority's insurance program and handling subrogation claims through the TPA. Additionally, responsibilities will encompass managing safety committees, organizing training sessions, updating disaster recovery plans, and conducting safety and compliance inspections. Achieving success in this position necessitates a deep comprehension of public sector risk management, compliance, and safety practices. Furthermore, it requires a commitment to crafting effective risk management policies, refining processes, and implementing robust systems, all in alignment with the objectives set forth by the Senior Manager of Business Development, Compliance, and Risk.


Essential Functions


-       Possess knowledge of workers’ compensation and general liability laws and regulations, including the processing and reporting of workers' compensation, auto, and general liability claims to the TPA/insurance carrier.

-       Assist the Senior Manager in planning, administering, and operating the Risk Management Function by identifying potential risks that could impact the reputation, safety, security, and financial well-being of the Authority.

-       Conduct risk assessments of organizational programs, functions, and governance frameworks; document findings and recommendations as directed by the Senior Manager.

-       Lead the Safety Committee, conduct required trainings, and ensure the ongoing implementation and communication of safety programs.

-       Foster risk awareness among staff by providing support and training as instructed by the Senior Manager.

-       Manage the Authority’s Certificate of Insurance (COI) program, including record administration, document management, records retention initiatives, and tracking updates for all COI activity.

-       Handle purchasing and accounts payable for the Risk Management department.

-       Manage the filing of insurance claims and fulfill monthly reporting requirements to the Finance Department.

-       Assist the Senior Manager in gathering data for annual insurance renewal.

-       Coordinate responses to Colorado Open Records Requests in collaboration with the Senior Manager.

-       Supervise the procurement of Authority-wide uniform requests and oversee the office supplies budget.

-       Support the Senior Manager in coordinating Authority-wide safety training and Safety Committee meetings.

Administer the Authority’s safety training platform, with advanced troubleshooting assistance from the 


Qualifications

-       Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration safety, risk management, or related field, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.

  •   Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification is a plus.
