Assembly Supervisor

The Secondary Assembly Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the secondary assembly operations in a manufacturing environment. This includes managing the assembly team, ensuring that production goals are met, maintaining high-quality standards, optimizing efficiency, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The role also involves coordinating resources, monitoring performance, and ensuring smooth handoff between primary and secondary assembly stages of production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Leadership:
- Supervise and lead the secondary assembly team to ensure all tasks are completed on time and in accordance with company quality standards.
- Provide guidance and training to assembly line workers on proper techniques, safety procedures, and best practices.
- Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, conduct performance reviews, and address performance or behavioral issues as necessary.
- Create and manage assembly schedules to ensure production targets are met.
- Assembly Operations:
- Oversee the secondary assembly processes, which may include processes such as trimming, painting, final assembly, testing, or packaging.
- Ensure proper handling of materials, components, and tools to avoid damage and delays.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as quality control and engineering, to ensure smooth transitions between the primary and secondary assembly stages.
- Maintain a constant focus on meeting production deadlines while ensuring that safety, quality, and efficiency are upheld.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure that all assembled products meet the quality standards and customer specifications.
- Monitor work quality through inspections and audits and address any issues related to defects or discrepancies.
- Implement corrective actions when quality issues are identified to minimize defects and improve production processes.
- Maintain thorough documentation of quality checks and inspections performed during secondary assembly.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Promote a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols and ensuring that all workers are properly trained in the use of equipment and handling of materials.
- Conduct regular safety audits and ensure compliance with all OSHA and internal safety regulations.
- Address any safety hazards promptly and report serious incidents to management.
- Team Coordination and Resource Management:
- Coordinate with the Materials and Logistics teams to ensure that all required materials and components are available for secondary assembly operations.
- Track inventory and ensure that tools, parts, and equipment are properly maintained and stocked.
- Monitor the performance of secondary assembly equipment, identify any maintenance needs, and work with the maintenance team to resolve issues quickly.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify areas for improvement in assembly processes and lead efforts to streamline operations, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes to address recurring issues.
- Encourage team involvement in continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback for process optimization.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment, with 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in secondary assembly processes (such as trimming, testing, painting, packaging) is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- Knowledge of assembly line processes, machinery, and equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in quality control methods and tools, with an eye for detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, able to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with other departments and team members.
Working Conditions:
- This position typically operates in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels.
- The role may require standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items (up to 40 pounds), and working with moving machinery or tools.
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet production targets or deadlines.
