Position Summary:

Demonstrates proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2‐dimensional, 3‐dimensional, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms, as requested by a physician and in accordance with standard practices. Provides echocardiography service during normal business hours (7:00 am – 4:00 pm), rotating weekends (Saturday 7:00 am- 11:00 am), and providing rotating emergent call coverage as scheduled.

Education, License & Certification:

• Active certification in Adult Echocardiography as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or another approved equivalent is required.
• Must maintain working knowledge and educational requirements for active certification.
• Graduate from an approved program preferred, but not required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire date.

Experience:

• Minimum of one-year full-time clinical experience preferred, but not required.
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within this field.
• Ability to use independent judgement to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and the patient’s needs.
• Able to follow established departmental procedures.
• Able to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.

Essential Functions:

• Perform both high-quality inpatient and outpatient adult echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, and transesophageal echocardiograms in accordance with IAC guidelines, using AOMC established protocols.
• Perform inpatient neonatal echocardiograms
• Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring accuracy and optimal performance
• Review patient’s medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures.
• Prepare preliminary reports for review and interpretation by Cardiologist, including comparison of previous studies.
• Maintain confidentiality of patients, employees, and corporation‐related activities.
• Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer’s needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Medical Center.
