Position Summary:

A Performs quality diagnostic ultrasound studies and provides support services at an expert level specializing in Pediatric Cardiology.

The scope of practice includes performing inpatient and outpatient pediatric echocardiograms (neonatal through Adult CHD) for which the individual has demonstrated competency through education, clinical experience, and certification. This position reports to the Cardiac Services Manager, or their designees, and collaborates closely with the pediatric cardiologist.

Provides echocardiography service during normal business hours (7:00 am – 4:00 pm) and provides rotating emergent call coverage as scheduled.


Education, License & Certification:

  • Active certification in Pediatric Echocardiography as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or another approved equivalent is required.
  • Must maintain working knowledge and educational requirements for active certification.
  • Graduate from an approved program preferred, but not required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire date.


Experience:

  • Minimum of one-year full-time pediatric echocardiography and clinical experience preferred, but not required.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within this field.
  • Ability to use independent judgement to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and the patient’s needs.
  • Able to follow established departmental procedures.
  • Able to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.


Essential Functions:

  • Perform high-quality inpatient and outpatient pediatric (neonatal to Adult CHD) echocardiograms, in accordance with IAC guidelines, using AOMC established protocols.
  • Perform inpatient neonatal echocardiograms
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring accuracy and optimal performance
  • Review patient’s medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepare preliminary reports for review and interpretation by Pediatric Cardiologist, including comparison of previous studies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patients, employees, and corporation‐related activities.
