Molding Process Technician

A large Medical Device company in Maple Grove, MN is in immediate need of a Molding Process Technician for a 12-month project. The Technician will be working primarily onsite in Maple Grove, but up to 20% of the work could be onsite at their facility in Minnetonka so the Technician must be able to support both locations. The Technician will be working on the Process Development team for molding.
This role is filling in for a technician who recently moved to a different team. This role is very hands-on to support molding on the manufacturing floor where gowning is required. The role is focused on setting up and taking down molds and also conducting maintenance, the Technician should be experienced in plastic processing and troubleshooting.
Top Requirements:
- 3 years of experience with AA degree or an equivalent combination of education/work experience
- Medical device industry experience
- Strong hands-on experience with injection molding set-up and maintenance
- Comfortable working with new equipment and being hands-on on manufacturing floor
- Some experience in basic statistics and mathematics
Responsibilities:
- Develop, setup, and run injection molded components
- Troubleshoot molding processes which are not fully optimized.
- Collaborate with PD and Manufacturing to develop injection molding processes for prototype designs.
- Prototype new components and provide samples for performance testing.
- Develop concepts and accordingly construct prototypes/products from concepts.
- Utilize basic mechanical drawing or CAD software to document prototypes and fixtures.
- Qualify tooling and fixturing to ensure intended use.
- Explore and propose creative solutions based on solid rationales and contribute to design and process concepts.
- Organize, coordinate, and execute building and testing of prototypes/products per engineering instructions.
- Assist project teams in establishing specifications and quality standards.
- Use internal resources and qualified external vendors to assist engineering teams to identify and obtain supplies and services.
- May assist metrology department by coordinating the routine calibrations of gages used in process development.
- May perform routine maintenance of some laboratory equipment, and support laboratory equipment strategy
- Act as a resource and mentor to other employees in the group.
- Train and work with production staff to ensure proper implementation of NPD processes.
- Communicate project status to project teams
