Youth Coordinator

The primary role of the Circles Youth Program Coordinator is to create a vibrant and inclusive environment that encourages the youth in the Circles program as they develop their own goals. The Youth Program coordinator develops the weekly lessons and activities and provides guidance to the Lead Teachers and volunteers as they implement the lessons. The Youth Program Coordinator position is an integral part of the Circles commitment to ending poverty through building community and creating meaningful relationships with the children and their families.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Develop a curriculum map of lessons for youth ages 5-16 for the duration of each cohort, using the Circles USA youth curriculum as a general guide  
  • Develop weekly lesson plans and activities for each age group  
  • Work with Circles Coach and Program Assistant to ensure proper staffing and volunteer ratios within the youth program.   
  • Onboard and train all Lead Teachers and Youth Program volunteers  
  • Communicate regularly with the Lead Teachers regarding the upcoming lessons and any needs they have  
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with children, staff, parents and volunteers. Help to manage any conflicts that may occur and provide written reports on any incidents.   
  • Provide a safe, secure, and caring environment for youth participating in programs.   
  • Attend weekly Circles meetings and provide general supervision and support to the Youth Program  
  • Implement proper security protocols and procedures into programming  

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) 

  • Experience working with youth and families from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. 
  • Strong organizational skills: detail oriented with good follow through 
  • Demonstrate quick and flexible thinking while remaining calm in stressful situations 
  • Awareness of resources for families in the community 
  • Willingness to network with community youth and family service providers 
  • Flexible scheduling, including ability to work up to two evenings per week from 5:30-8:30pm 
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills 
  • Ability to coordinate and manage volunteers 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Google and Excel 
  • Reliable transportation 

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment  

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the administrative duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc., and must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time. Employees will also regularly operate office equipment such as computers and copy machines and will frequently learn new information and communicate accurate details in person and in writing. Employees will be onsite during weekly meetings and will be active with youth programming, which involves standing, sitting, and frequent movement.
