Novvi is looking for an exceptional individual to be part of our interdisciplinary team developing revolutionary high performance products derived from renewable sources. This position ensures goods manufactured by Novvi are produced in a cost-effective way that meets quality specifications and market demands. Makes sure that goods are ready to distribute to customers in a timely fashion. Improves a company's production and distribution processes. Ensures the production and distribution of products runs smoothly.
As a member of Novvi’s, Houston, Manufacturing team, the Plant Process Engineer will take a key responsibility in continuing process development and scale up of cost-competitive synthetic hydrocarbon base oils. This role will assist in designing and implementing manufacturing processes, process improvements, and plant equipment upgrades to achieve the overall safety and production goals of the organization. This position will work as a liaison between the R&D team and the manufacturing team to transfer knowledge to ensure the operations are successful. A unique opportunity exists to have a large impact on the lubricants industry with new uncompromising alternatives to petroleum derived lubricants.
The ideal candidate will have experience with process design and modeling of conventional base oil and hydro-processing unit operations such as continuous hydrogenation and fractional distillation. Must be able to transfer modeling and calulations to real world processing and meet expectations.
Requires a bachelor's in engineering and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Hands-on approach is a must.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: (essential to the position)
1) Demonstrating your experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment, you will provide process engineering support for Process Safety, MOCs, PHAs, PSM, RMP, and EHS for the manufacturing processes.
2) Work with plant operation personnel to ensure plant is operating efficiently by ensuring plant performance.
3) Analyze plant performance and provide feedback at defined internals.
4) Strong computer skills, specifically ChemCad, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
5) Effective interpersonal communication skills to collaborate successfully with other functions, provide process engineering support to Operations for process troubleshooting, reliability improvements and problem solving.
6) Work under limited supervision, develop process improvements for plant safety, quality, and productivity.
7) Modify potential, new and existing processes to gain competitive advantages such as reduced risk, reduced production cost, increased quality, etc.
8) Participate in business development activities from a technical assessment, process optimization and cost estimation prospective.
9) Provides training to operating technicians and day personnel for process modifications and procedure modification.
10) Manages/Leads the MOC and PSSR process; including duties such as verifying that a MOC has been submitted for change; all PSM Requirements are met; and verifying that all affected employees are trained and informed.
11) Implements new corporate PSM Programs and Initiatives.
12) Supports all PSM activities.
13) Provides Technical Assistance to Operations and Maintenance Personnel for LOTO Permits, Hot Work Permits, Confined Space Entry, MOC, Electrical Permits, Process Safety Reviews, Incident Investigations and other EHSS Related Processes.
14) Supports laboratory R & D and QA efforts from a technical standpoint.
15) Lead process-engineering function at the plant level for existing and new capital projects.
16) Participate in and occasionally lead HAZOP and related studies for new and existing processes.
17) Assist EHS personnel in process emission and waste definitions for new and existing processes.
18) Write and assist others in writing SOP’s with strong written and verbal communication skills.
19) Other duties as needed.
Qualities and Experiences viewed as Favorable:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects is fast paced environment.
- Engineering (preferably Chemical Engineering) and working knowledge of olefin and polymer chemistry principles, application, and safety.
- PSM Plant experience preferred.
- Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Support plant DCS and process control strategies to improve and troubleshoot plant processes.
Education and Experience: (required)
BS in Chemical Engineering from a 4-year generally recognized institution.
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a chemical or petroleum refining manufacturing environment.
