The oil product trading group, based at the Company Headquarters in Long Beach California, handles petroleum and renewable fuel trading primarily in North America and throughout the Pacific Rim. Our US West Coast trading team touches every major Western US and Western Canada market. Activities include: waterborne tanker and barge petroleum trading, pipeline system and terminal trading, oil derivatives markets, price risk management, and supply services for our counterparties.


The Role: MIECO is presenting a great opportunity to enter this elite trading team in the role of Trade Operator. The position location is at the regional office in Bend, Oregon. This role will oversee marine operations when we have waterborne cargos moving domestically and internationally. Operational responsibilities include vessel scheduling, operations management, fuel specifications, product quality oversight and testing, voyage orders, international customs, shipping documentation, regulatory compliance tracking and other tasks to ensure excellent operations.

1) Learning and furthering the established Trade Operation management processes that support safe and efficient operations. The keys to this are precise, efficient, proactive and timely communications coupled with high organizational skills.

2) A demonstrated drive to learn about fuels from a technical standpoint and about the marine transportation markets from an operational and commercial perspective.

3) Furthering our industry leading service and customer-oriented approach to relationships. The position entails working after-hour, nights and weekends, to address and handle time sensitive matters happening around the globe.

 

Key Responsibilities:

§  Work internally with our trading team and external contacts to plan future operations. Learn, track and carry out contractual obligations we have with counterparties.

§  Appoint and instruct cargo surveyors, laboratories, customs brokers and vessel agents.

§  Manage operations and troubleshoot problems in a professional manner.

§  Maintain excellent records of cargo quantity and quality and vessel activities, input information into MIECO systems, liaise with the Accounting Dept. and process claims.

§  Learn fuel diesel, jet fuel and gasoline specifications and testing methods

§  Perform regulatory reporting tasks related to EPA and state regulators.

§  Manage demurrage, deviation, and port cost claims in a timely and precise manner.


Qualifications:

§ The person needs to consistently demonstrate excellent people skills, a positive demeanor and professional/concise/accurate communications (written and verbal).

§ Authentic desire to learn the about this industry and the ways it is constantly changing.

§ Ability to process large amounts of information and independently distill valuable conclusions to feed back to the team

§ Experience keeping up with a mix of complex and technical projects simultaneously

§ Track record of managing logistics at scale and complexity in a supply chain

§ Dedicated individual with high leadership and integrity who aligns with the MIECO values and culture

§ Degree in Business, Logistics, Science or Engineering preferred

§ Experience in petroleum and marine transportation preferred

§ Travel domestically and internationally 10-20% of the time. This job is located in Bend Ore. at a small remote office handling trading and marine operations.
