We are seeking a Chief Chemist/Laboratory Superintendent for our project in Kingman, Arizona.
The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the effective Supervision of the entire Laboratory operation to ensure all Laboratory processes are operational, controlled, and maintained.
Responsibilities:
Health, Safety, and Legal Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with DRA’s Health and Safety responsibilities
- Identify hazards and risk while performing daily tasks and maintenance and take preventative measures to avoid incidents
- Comply with provided systems, practices, methods, standards and procedures of the job
- Adhere to lock out procedures at all times
- Comply with legal an operational requirements
- Visual inspection of working area carried out to ensure workplace safety
- Ensures adherence to the company's environmental management program and objectives are implemented according to statutory legislation and the Strategic Management Plan
Functional Role
- Prioritize and plan the work samples to be conduced in relation to the resources available
- Follow the correct analytical procedures when preparing and reporting samples: Drying screening, splitting, crushing, pulverizing, weighting, moisture determination, fluxing, fusion, weighting, and reporting
- Ensure that balances that are used in the lab are verified using certified mass pieces
- Check the temperature of the furnaces and ovens to ensure that it is at the correct temperature at all times
- Record temperature measure into the furnace logbook
- Conduct equipment inspections and record the results onto the checklist prior to the use of any piece of equipment
- Report all equipment and electrical faults to the Chemist/Analyst
- Apply and use Quality Control standards accurately as specified
- Identify and report irregularities in the overall results; suggest corrective actions to be taken and implement corrective actions upon approval by Laboratory Analyst
- Record all samples received on the sample receiving docket and ensure that the id on the sample and the docket corresponds and sign for acceptance thereof
- File all dockets in the sample receiving docket file
- Report receipt of samples to analyst immediately
- Conduct weekly stock taking on critical consumables in lab and report stock shortages to Lab Analyst
- Conduct ad hoc activities or duties as requested by Lab Analyst
- Initiate assisting Lab Analysts with instrument analysis, such as titrations, refractive index, etc. to aid in own development.
- Oversee that the necessary test work is conducted in the lab and communicate results to the client and stakeholders on plant (Managers and Superintendents)
- Ensure adherence to client quality requirements by monitoring laboratory feedback and ensuring the implementation of corrective measures
- Continuously monitor the Laboratory process to ensure adherence to ISO and legislative standards/requirements
- Effectively managing time and resources of self/others to ensure that work is completed efficiently
- Manages subordinates' key performance areas by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking action to correct deviations to achieve the section's objectives
- Directs the development and implementation of plans and programs to improve the efficiency of operations including cost control programs, staff utilization studies, and work method improvements
- Plans and co-ordinates the section's work load and sets and adjusts individual objectives
- Prepares career development plans, appraises progress and provides training and coaching to develop subordinates to their full potential
Requirements:
- BS degree in Chemistry
- 5+ years’ experience in an analytical laboratory
- Chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo including uses of chemical and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
