Summary
We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Aerospace Sales Manager to lead our sales team in driving growth with tier 1 suppliers, including Boeing, Rockwell, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and other major defense contractors. This role involves managing a team of up to 10 sales and customer service representatives (CSRs), providing leadership in sales strategy, customer relationship management, and team development. The ideal candidate will bring deep aerospace industry knowledge, strong people skills, and a proven track record in team building and organizational leadership.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and support a team of inside and outside sales and CSR employees, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. Conduct regular coaching sessions to enhance team skills and morale.
- Account Management: Develop and strengthen relationships with key accounts, understanding their unique needs and coordinating internally to deliver effective solutions.
- Sales Strategy: Create and implement comprehensive sales strategies to drive revenue growth with tier 1 suppliers, identifying and capitalizing on new business opportunities within the aerospace and defense sectors.
- Team Development: Oversee training, onboarding, and development initiatives to ensure team members have the technical knowledge and soft skills needed to succeed.
- Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and market demands, using insights to refine sales approaches and identify emerging opportunities.
- Bid and Proposal Oversight: Guide the preparation and submission of proposals and bids, ensuring they meet both customer and company standards while adhering to regulatory requirements.
- Sales Forecasting and Reporting: Regularly update sales forecasts, track performance metrics, and report progress to senior management, using data to inform strategy adjustments.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with internal departments, including engineering, production, and quality teams, to meet customer requirements, address concerns, and ensure timely delivery.
- Customer Advocacy: Serve as the primary customer advocate, championing their needs within the organization and identifying upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in aerospace or a related industry, with experience in managing teams, and a record of success working with tier 1 or defense contractor accounts.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead a sales team effectively, with strong team-building, mentoring, and organizational skills. Ability to inspire and motivate employees.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree is a plus.
- Aerospace Knowledge: Deep understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, as well as familiarity with defense procurement.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CRM software, MS Office Suite, and experience with sales forecasting tools; familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
- Problem-solving Skills: Strong analytical skills and a resourceful approach to managing complex customer issues and team challenges.
- Travel: Willingness to travel up to 30% to meet clients, attend industry events, and engage in team-building activities.
