Public Policy Internship for a Graduate/Law Student
2 months ago
This is a dynamic and exciting internship opportunity where students will get hands on policy and advocacy experience with a well-established non-profit in the heart of Washington DC. Interns will advocate at the federal level on behalf of nursing home residents -- a population made more vulnerable by COVID-19.
To Apply: Submit a cover letter, resume, and a brief writing sample (no longer than 3 pages) to Katie O'Hearn at kohearn@theconsumervoice.org by August 1, 2024.
Interns will have the opportunity to make a real difference while learning the ins and outs of a fast-paced nonprofit organization.
The position requires a time commitment of 20 hours per week. Interns are required to attend 1 - 2 virtual staff-wide meetings per week. While this is an unpaid internship, there is a small stipend offered and we are happy to assist students with receiving academic credit for their internship.
Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate or law degree program and have exceptional writing and computer skills, research knowledge, and willingness to work on a wide range of projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a non-profit organization, engage in grassroots advocacy, and gain valuable member development and fundraising skills.
This internship is a remote position.
Specific Duties:
- Assist in analyzing regulations and legislation around COVID-19 and its impact on the long-term care consumer population;
- Research and analysis of public policy issues;
- Writing issue briefs, white papers, policy updates and newsletter articles;
- Assist in creating advocacy and education materials;
- Consult with consumers and advocates on relevant issues;
- Assist in development of the Consumer Voice website information and create blast e-mail campaigns;
- Attend relevant events and meetings;
- Contribute to other writing, research, policy, and communications work as needed;
- Conduct administrative tasks as assigned.
