Must Haves:

  • Experience with a variety of commercial or industrial utility equipment such as boilers, chillers, air compressors, freezers etc.
  • Experience working with a building automation system (BAS) similar to Siemens, Honeywell, JCI etc.
  • Experience with a work order management system like SAP, Maximo, Blue Mountain or something similar
  • Industrial experience involving utility system generation, distribution and controls are needed.
  • industrial electrical distribution (low/medium voltages), HVAC/R systems, WFI, clean steam, utility generation equipment à glycol, steam, condensation, steam traps
  • Ability to read P&ID’s, electrical drawings, blueprints etc.


Pluses:

  • Experience monitoring critical alarms
  • Experience with Delta V control system
  • Prior experience in a pharmaceutical or GMP environment

Day to Day:

One of our largest pharmaceutical clients in the Durham area is looking for Utilities Technicians to join their plant engineering department. The Utilities Technician will be responsible for efficient operation, system monitoring, and reliability centered maintenance of all clean utilities in plant engineering. The successful candidate must understand and know how to troubleshoot, repair and calibrate reverse osmosis systems, clean steam generators, vapor compression still and water for injection systems. The successful candidate will actively support, participate and embrace an empowered team culture including significant interaction with Automation, Quality and other support groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Ability to work with and troubleshoot and calibrate complex clean utility systems to include reverse osmosis skids, clean steam generators, vapor compression stills and water for injection systems

- Order and maintain spare parts for these systems

- Review and update SOPs, job aids and task lists for improvements

- Interface with other departments, contractors and disciplines on scheduling repairs and maintenance of clean utility systems and production equipment

- Installation, testing, adjustment, maintenance, repair, calibration and troubleshooting of complex systems

- Follow current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) and good documentation practices (cGDPs).

- Follow instructions for completion of job tasks

- Responsible for written documentation of activities

- Develops standard operating procedures (SOPs), engineering change request (ECRs), preventative maintenance (PM) plans/calibration procedures, task lists, etc.as required.

- Work within a team to perform maintenance and troubleshooting activities.

- Complete preventative maintenance and calibration work orders, resolve deviations and evaluate equipment performance for efficient operation of clean utility systems

- Efficient and safe maintenance and repair of equipment using Hazardous Energy Control Procedures

- Compliance with current good manufacturing procedures(cGMP), safety and environmental requirements/regulations/guidelines

- Effective communication both written and oral

- Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, work on platforms and equipment above floor level. Walking, bending, crawling, stooping is required.

- Required to wear personal protective equipment including safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, hard hats,

safety harnesses,etc.

- Effective maintenance and troubleshooting skills both electrical, pneumatic and mechanical

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and advance several tasks in parallel

- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

- Proficient in the use of general hand and power tools, instruments and testing apparatus commonly used in maintenance and instrumentation.

- Ability to read P&ID's, electrical drawings, blueprints, etc

- Required to support an on-call schedule to include days, nights and weekends on a rotational basis with

other team members
