Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southwest is looking for highly motivated broad-thinking architects to join our team. As an Architect with NAVFAC Southwest, you will provide architectural design services and consultation for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of a broad range of facilities ranging from administrative and housing facilities to very complex industrial and operational facilities that serve the Navy and Marine Corps. Projects are challenging, interesting and diverse both technically and geographically.



Responsibilities Include:

• Perform all aspects of architectural design, including programing, space planning, concept design development, design analyses, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and other required services.

• Prepare design, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates, for new and renovation projects using architectural Autodesk AutoCAD Desktop software (Knowledge of BIM is preferred).

• Perform quality assurance reviews and evaluate Design-Bid-Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) architectural and engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and supporting documents prepared by A/E design firms, to determine feasibility, compatibility with other work, and effectiveness in meeting DoD and NAVFAC codes and criteria.

• Investigate and evaluate architectural and engineering issues and concerns in existing facilities to develop recommendations and options for remediation or corrective measures.

• Perform design management and oversight on the execution of multidisciplinary design projects, tracking the progress of projects to ensure they are kept within budget and completed within allotted design schedules.

• Provide construction oversight services, including review and approval of contractor’s submittals, shop drawings and provide technical response to Request for Information.


Preferred Experience:

• Experience, knowledge and skill in architectural concepts, theories, principles and practices and techniques.

• Comprehensive experience in all phases of architectural design and construction.

• Experience in preparing design, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates, for new and renovation projects using latest architectural design software.

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes and other statutory requirements affecting architectural design, including but not limited, to sustainability, accessibility, and building envelope.

• Demonstrate computer literacy in applications such as Autodesk software, Microsoft Office products, architectural design and analysis software.

• Good written and oral communication.


The ideal candidate will have professional architecture license, 5+ years’ experience in preparing design and construction documents for large commercial projects, 5+ years’ experience in overseeing construction for large commercial projects and strong technical knowledge and experience in building detailing.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid Driver's License

• Bachelor's of Architecture

• Must hold U.S. Citizenship

• Aged 18 or older at time of hire

• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
