G- Position Duties and Responsibilities


1. Legal review to identify outdated materials regarding all housing, eviction, unlawful detainer, emergency rental assistance, and other housing and homelessness prevention issues contained on the client council the SHMOODLE learning platform.

2. Responsibility for accuracy of legal content, including procedural content, on the SHMOODLE learning platform. All material must meet accessibility requirement and work effectively on mobile devices.

3. Work with the lead attorney responsible for programming the Hot Docs document assembly program to update all forms necessary for meeting compliance.

4. Work with the lead CFCC Web Content attorney to ensure that the standard protocol is using defined design standards and conveying legally accurate information in language comprehensible to self represented litigants, enabling then to move forward with their cases.

5. Provide legal subject matter expertise to ensure legal accuracy of the SHMOODLE learning platform.


Required Skills, Licenses, Certifications and Education (Include Preferred Skills in parentheses):


A member in good standing in the California Bar. Preference for attorneys with recent experience handling unlawful detainer, eviction, emergency rental assistance, and other housing related legal issues.



Justification and Criticality for Temporary Staff: (If extension, include explanation why work assignment could not be completed within original term).


Self-help attorneys and staff, legal aid attorneys and staff, and members of the public depend on the Hot Docs forms and information contained on the SHMOODLE learning site legal materials to be up to date and accurate.

Our current materials are out of date, particularly as they pertain to housing and eviction issues. The law has undergone several changes recently, making the updating process legally difficult and complex.

We need the assistance of an attorney who can focus on research and updates to all of the housing, evictions, and related materials.

The attorney would also need to be capable of assisting our automated forms attorney to update many forms in the Hot Docs program to meet deadlines by December 31st.

This is particularly important because in FY 2021 through FY 2023 the federal government issued a total amount of $80 million in State Fiscal Recovery Funds so that legal aid attorneys could help members of the public who were facing eviction during the pandemic.

We want to use remaining funds that expire December 31, 2024.

Many litigants are still maneuvering the court systems and, if they rely on our current information. This information is out of date legal information.


Consequences if temporary staff request not granted:


The information that is currently on the on line SHMOODLE (Self-Help Moodle) learning platform is incorrect and therefore potentially dangerous for litigants to rely upon.

The SHMOODLE housing materials would need to be removed until they can be updated.

This would leave the court-based self-help centers without reference materials on housing and eviction matters.

Further, there are many changes to the forms, including FL-150 form which is in 50+ Hot Docs programs, that must be updated.
