Collections Specialist – Cary, NC


Our Cary based client is seeking a Collections Specialist to become a part of their exceptional team. In this role, you are responsible for client account awareness, contacting clients with overdue accounts, and collecting outstanding payments. You will strike a balance between maintaining trustful relationships and ensuring timely payments. The Collection Specialist should exhibit professionalism and trustworthiness. You should have excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to work independently.


This is a 3-month contract with the possibility of permanent placement for the right candidate. The selected candidate will report to the head of Risk Management. For this hybrid opportunity in Cary, NC, there is no relocation assistance or C2C consideration.


Role Responsibilities:

1. Monitor the firm’s accounts receivable and proactively identify overdue accounts.

2. Contact customers with overdue accounts and attempt to collect the overdue amount or negotiate a payment plan to collect in installments.

3. Use credit bureau data, post office information, internet searches, and other tools to locate customers who have moved or changed phone numbers.

4. Maintain records of contacts and attempted contacts with delinquent account customers as well as records of any payments collected from the customer.

5. Resolve customer issues and complaints concerning billing.

6. Define new processes as needed and offer suggestions on better procedures.

7. Comfortable working with all levels in a company from executives to engineers.

8. Submit regular reports on the status of unpaid accounts and any repayment progress.


Role Requirements:

1. Proven experience as a Collection Specialist or similar role with past success stories you love to share.

2. Knowledge of billing procedures and collection techniques (e.g. skip tracing).

3. Familiarity with laws related to debt collection (e.g. FDCPA).

4. Working knowledge of Excel and loves working with spreadsheets.

5. Has worked for a small company and loves wearing different hats at any given hour.

6. Excellent communication skills (written and oral) including customer service.

7. Skilled in negotiation.

8. Problem-solving skills and knows when to escalate a problem.

9. Detail oriented.

10. Must be able to pass a detailed background check.

11. High school diploma; Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
