We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a dynamic and high growth environment to own the various accounting functions as the company accelerates through its next phase of growth. The Staff Accountant to the Hill Mechanical Corporation (HMC) division of The Hill Group (Hill) works closely with the CFO, Controller, Accounting Department and other related groups to assist in the accomplishment of department goals. This position will require attention to detail and prioritizing to meet deadlines.You will work in a small team with a shared common goal. The ideal candidate for this position will be a team player with a positive attitude and the ability to multitask and take on ad hoc projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of general accounting duties including:
  • Bank reconciliations for multiple entities
  • Monthly journal entries for multiple operating units
  • Sales Tax and Property Tax reporting for various states
  • GL account reconciliations
  • Update and maintain fixed asset activity and records
  • Assist with billings, collections, and payables and be the go to person with questions
  • Commercial and workers’ compensation premium activity and report monthly payroll
  • Learn our ERP system and be the go to person with questions
  • Learn AP/AR/Payroll functions to serve as a backup to the accounting team
  • Prepare daily cash reporting for company executive committee
  • Compile data and prepare a variety of reports
  • Assist the Accounting Supervisor as needed
  • Perform all other duties as assigned


Experience and Qualifications:

  • Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 0-2 years of related experience
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint); experience in Penta and SamPro a plus
  • Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Office
  • Experience with inter-company transactions and consolidations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and work ethic
  • Self-motivated with effective time management skills
  • Detailed-oriented, self-directed and able to effectively complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to articulate the need to prioritize tasks and communicate effectively on the status and progress
