Overview: We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior IT Systems Engineer to ensure the robustness, scalability, and security of our company's IT infrastructure. In this role, you will manage and optimize our Windows server environment and VMware virtualization stack, while also spearheading the design and implementation of file management systems. Your expertise will be pivotal in maintaining seamless operations, addressing system-related challenges, and driving IT initiatives that align with our business goals.
This is a 4-6 month contract that will work roughly 30/hrs a week and will be 100% remote. Candidates must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship, both now and in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Server Environment Management: Oversee the administration and maintenance of the Windows server environment, with a focus on Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file services to ensure reliability and performance.
- Virtualization Infrastructure: Manage and secure our VMware vSphere environment, optimizing configurations to maintain high availability and improve system performance.
- File Management Systems: Lead the design and deployment of a Distributed File System (DFS) to enhance file management, replication, and accessibility across the network.
- System Monitoring & Support: Continuously monitor system health and performance, providing expert troubleshooting, performance tuning, and capacity planning to prevent and address potential issues.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-departmental teams to design and implement IT solutions that meet evolving business requirements and adhere to industry best practices.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures to promote consistency and facilitate effective knowledge transfer within the team.
- Business Initiatives: Contribute to various IT-related projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategies.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all IT activities comply with safety standards, training, and corporate policies.
- Ad Hoc Duties: Perform other duties as required to support the IT department and the broader organization.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a senior IT engineering role, with a focus on Windows server environments and VMware virtualization.
- Technical Expertise: Proficient in Windows server operating systems, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file services. Extensive experience with VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, iSCSI, and vMotion.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or equivalent qualifications are highly desirable.
- Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure or AWS is a plus.
- Scripting & Automation: Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell or Python to automate tasks and streamline processes.
- Disaster Recovery: Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring data integrity and business continuity.
- Networking Knowledge: Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and switching.
- Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex IT issues quickly and effectively.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Proactive Mindset: Energetic and proactive approach, with the ability to take the initiative and adapt to changing priorities.
- Independence & Prioritization: Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
