Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Repair Technician for a 12-month contract-to-hire position in Munster, IN. As an Electronics Repair Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing a wide range of electronic devices, including power supplies, analog/digital input/output boards, inverters, and other control devices used in industrial manufacturing. Our team repairs devices from all major manufacturers of industrial electronics, not just the Allen Bradley brand.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostics and Repair: Perform diagnostics and repairs on various electronic devices, utilizing general electronic circuit knowledge and experience with testing and diagnostic equipment to isolate failures and validate repairs.
  • Soldering/Desoldering: Proficiently solder and desolder electronic components on various circuit boards and assemblies, including double or multi-layer boards. Use desoldering tools, talons, and/or hot air for component removal.
  • Component Diagnostics: Diagnose standard electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, and simple integrated circuit devices.
  • Test Equipment: Utilize digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, frequency generators, and Huntron trackers for diagnostics.
  • Circuit Tracking: Perform electronic circuit tracking to detect circuit board failures.
  • Troubleshooting Strategy: Consult with senior technicians to develop troubleshooting strategies and learn repair techniques.
  • Functional Testing: Conduct final functional tests of repaired devices using test fixtures and procedures to ensure full functionality.
  • Service Reports: Create detailed service reports outlining the damage, repairs made, components replaced, and functional testing results.
  • Advanced Activities: Develop limited test procedures and create test fixtures for unique devices using breadboards and standard electronic components.

Critical Skills and Experience:

  • Education/Experience:
  • Preferred: 4-year degree in Electronics Technology (BSEET) with prior work experience.
  • Minimum: 2-year degree in Electronics Technology (ASEET) with 1-3 years of work experience in a related field or 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Military experience as electronics technicians is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Excellent soldering skills and proficient in the use of desolder tools.
  • Experience with AC/DC and Servo Drive, PCB component level troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with analog circuits using OpAmps, TTL, and CMOS devices.
  • Computer Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer use.
  • Working knowledge of Excel to navigate business systems like SAP.
  • Communication Skills:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
