Our client, a major medical/scientific publishing company, is actively looking for a Scientific Editor to join their team This is a fully remote position, however there is an office in Cambridge MA to go in to if local.


** This begins as a 2 month contract with an opportunity to extend or convert at any time**


We are looking for a dynamic scientific editor to join the Cell Chemical Biology editorial team. We welcome applications from candidates with biology expertise in any topic area covered by the journal, and we are particularly interested in considering candidates with cell biology and translational research experience. Previous editorial experience is helpful.


About the Role

The Scientific Editor will join the editorial team of Cell Chemical Biology, handling a broad spectrum of life science research articles and stay connected to a broad range of scientific topics.

The core responsibilities of this position include:

  • Working closely with the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team to manage content and to shape and develop the journal
  • Editorially evaluate and make decisions on research papers submitted to Cell Chemical Biology, and overseeing the peer review process
  • Recruiting exciting research studies, reviews, and other front matter
  • Work with authors and reviewers to publish exciting science across a range of topic areas
  • Engage the scientific community in their labs and at conferences to learn about scientific developments and establish relationships, representing Cell Chemical Biology and Cell Press at scientific meetings and visits to research institutions
  • Build strong relationships with Cell Press journals on content and collaborative projects
  • Contributing to broader initiatives.


Qualifications:

  • PhD in any area of cell biology or in a relevant discipline with experience in publishing original scientific research.
  • Possess broad scientific interests, love of science, and desire to learn. As an editor, you will need to understand the diverse science covered by Cell Chemical Biology, and you will need to appreciate the issues and questions that drive different fields.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to organize, prioritize, and focus.
  • Have great interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job.
  • Possess critical thinking skills and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of scientific research
  • Possess the ability to work successfully both solely and in a diverse global team
  • Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve
  • Possess interest in digital communication and publishing trends.
  • Interest in engaging with the scientific community
  • A talent for clear communication. Good editors help authors make their message clear, concise, and compelling, so readers know why the science is important.
