Summary

This position is responsible for the preparation and review of complex federal and state tax returns. Maintains all federal and state fixed assets books in the fixed asset software. Undertakes extensive self-reviews to generate a sold work product that requires limited changes upon higher level review and ensures that proper information is maintained for historical purposes. The individual assists and works with other Tax Professionals and accounting professionals as required.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently prepares or reviews work of others, as applicable for all US consolidated corporate income tax returns (federal and state) and other related returns. This includes preparation or review of detailed workpapers supporting all tax return line items and related tax positions, all at an exceptional high level of quality with need for limited changes upon higher level review.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate filing of all federal and state income and franchise tax returns.
  • Prepares or reviews quarterly income tax estimates.
  • Conducts or reviews tax research & planning assignments.
  • Reviews and analyzes tax books within the fixed asset system, including reconciliation of any GAAP, Federal and State book tax differences.
  • Maintains or reviews general ledger balances of selected tax accounts, including performing related quarterly reconciliations.
  • Work closely with accounting and other groups to obtain and validate information used for income tax preparation.
  • Assist with analysis of earnings and profits and tax basis in investment of subsidiaries.
  • Prepares domestic reporting for foreign entities.
  • Responsible for optimizing state and federal business tax credits with limited guidance.
  • Assists with due diligence on acquisitions.
  • Assists in developing responses for requests related to all Federal and State audits as well as gathering necessary information.
  • Assists in developing and drafting of responses for Federal and State tax notices.
  • Maintains knowledge of changing federal, state, and local compliance aspects and tax laws and their impact to the company.
  • Maintains OneSource Income Tax software.
  • Assists with documentation and implementation of tax policies and procedures.
  • Trains and develops staff members.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in taxation required and CPA a plus. Must have five (5) years of experience in the tax area.
  • Must have extensive and proven experience in federal consolidated returns (preparation and review) and at least limited experience with accounting for income taxes. Must have a multi-state tax background.
  • Must present effective oral and written communication skills. Must possess strong organizational skills and work-paper techniques. Must be a confident decision-maker able to produce accurate results with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess strong Excel and other computer skills.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource software and Bloomberg Fixed Assets software a plus.
  • Experience with Alteryx a plus.
  • Ability to read and analyze financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
