Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA/LAX) is seeking experienced professionals to join our team for various design management roles. These positions are integral to the delivery of LAWA’s Terminal Development and Improvement Program (TDIP), Airport Development Program (ADP), and Wayfinding Enhancement Program.
1. Design Manager III – Airport Facilities Design Manager
Location: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Responsibilities:
- Oversee design management of airport facilities, including bus yard charging facility, facility maintenance yard relocation, and parking garages.
- Ensure engineering review activities adhere to best practices and contractual design standards.
- Provide technical oversight for architectural, structural, MEP, civil, utilities, and IT disciplines.
- Manage design review, approval processes, permitting, and BIM coordination.
- Facilitate meetings and act as a technical liaison among stakeholders and designers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in managing complex building projects, preferably in aviation.
- Professional licensure as an Architect or Engineer preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam; CAD/REVIT skills a plus.
2. Design Manager III – Terminal Design Manager
Location: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Responsibilities:
- Manage design activities for terminal redevelopment projects, including concourses, headhouses, and support spaces.
- Establish and monitor procedures for architectural and engineering review.
- Coordinate design review processes, permitting, and BIM implementations.
- Support Terminal Project Managers with oversight of design-builders' work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in managing large, complex building projects, preferably in aviation.
- Professional licensure as an Architect or Engineer preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam; CAD/REVIT skills a plus.
3. Design Manager III – Asset Renewal Design Manager
Location: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Responsibilities:
- Lead design activities for the Asset Renewal Program, replacing end-of-life assets such as MEP systems, vertical transportation, and passenger boarding bridges.
- Oversee multiple design firms and sub-consultants to ensure compliance with design standards.
- Manage scope of work, design review, permitting, and BIM coordination.
- Act as the primary liaison for design activities with project managers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in MEP system construction and commissioning.
- Professional licensure as an Architect or Engineer preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam; CAD/REVIT skills a plus.
4. Design Manager V – Wayfinding Design Manager
Location: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design delivery of wayfinding systems across the airport campus.
- Ensure compliance with architectural and engineering guidelines for the Wayfinding Enhancement Program.
- Manage scope of work, design review, permitting, and BIM coordination.
- Facilitate meetings and act as a technical liaison among stakeholders, designers, and senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- 20+ years of experience in managing large, complex building projects, preferably in aviation.
- Professional licensure as an Architect or Engineer preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam; CAD/REVIT skills a plus.
5. Design Director (DM-V)
Location: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design delivery of all TDIP programs, ensuring adherence to best practices and design standards.
- Manage scope of work, design review, permitting, and BIM coordination.
- Provide technical support to project managers and act as the final authority on design issues.
- Facilitate meetings and coordinate with various stakeholders and project teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 20+ years of experience in managing complex building projects, preferably in aviation.
- Relevant professional licensure or certifications (AAAE, LEED, PE, PMP, AICP) strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam; CAD/REVIT skills a plus.
