  • As a senior member of the engineering team, the Sr. Design Engineer will also improve processes and coach employees.


Duties:

  • Review designs and ensure product technical performance and ensure conformance with internal design standards, regulatory requirements, and safety best practices
  • Understand worldwide regulatory requirements (e.g. ASME, PED, CRN, UL, CE, CSA, etc) to produce equipment (pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, some electrical equipment) which complies with market requirements
  • Engage with production teams to ensure designs are cost-effective and manufacturable (DFM)
  • Participate in or lead risk analysis activities, e.g. DFMEA
  • Create and perform calculations for pressure vessel structural design, piping and heat exchanger sizing, structural weldments, bolting, etc.
  • Research and conduct additional calculations or testing to mitigate risks in diverse engineering disciplines including fluid flow, thermodynamics, heat transfer, static structural analysis, dynamic structural analysis (vibration and shock)
  • Utilize structural FEA for design optimization, failure avoidance, code compliance
  • Prepare technical design documentation (specification drawings, calculations, risk analyses, etc) and submit to regulatory authorities for new and revised designs
  • Manage organization of technical design documentation to ensure security and accessibility
  • Serve as primary technical liaison and manage communication with regulatory bodies, government organizations , etc as it relates to design approvals, changes
  • Assist with maintaining regulatory compliance by managing timelines for document preparation, submission, etc
  • Assist and instruct designers and other team members in practical pressure vessel, piping, heat exchanger design


Other Essential Duties:

  • Maintain design documentation per our product development process
  • Collaborate with engineering groups at our other sites to standardize design practices
  • Develop calculation packages that serve to automate routine calculations
  • Work with suppliers to design and develop subcomponents and subassemblies
  • Evaluate and contribute to product documentation, e.g. creation of specifications
  • Assist with validation testing of products, as needed
  • Work with manufacturing engineering, quality, and production to ensure production readiness and successful product launch of new or revised products


Required:

  • Required: Minimum 6 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Preferred: At least 3 years of experience in new product development in a production environment; project management exposure or direct experience


General:

Technical:

  • Understanding of statics, heat transfer and fluid flow
  • Understanding of welding
  • Basic understand of cryogenic liquids, compressed gases and their properties
  • Structural FEA experience, CFD experience is a plus
  • Strong CAD skills a plus (Solidworks, Inventor, AutoCAD)


Education:

  • BS Engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering but will consider Aerospace, Materials Science, or Nuclear Engineering disciplines
  • MS degree is a plus
  • Registered Professional Engineer is a plus


Work Hazards:

  • Production floor environment will involve possible exposure to materials with rough edges, temperature extremes, moving mechanical parts, occasional flying debris, chemical cleaning solvents and their odors.
  • Working with cryogenic products will involve possible exposure to pressurized flammable gas, pressurized oxidizing gas, pressurized inert gas and very low temperatures (-320º F).
