Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Project Engineer II to join our team in Wilmington, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and management of new and modified production equipment. This position involves both hands-on work and supervisory responsibilities, with opportunities to travel to various plant locations across North Carolina.


Safety Equipment:

  • Provided: Generic safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, safety vests, etc.
  • Employee Responsibility: Safety boots (over-the-ankle, typically 6 inches). Reimbursement up to $150 with receipt.


Required Education & Experience:

  • Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Project Management
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a similar role.


Key Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Hands-on Installation Support: Proven experience with installation, troubleshooting, and start-up of mechanical and electrical systems.
  2. Project Management: Experience in analyzing and improving equipment installation practices, managing parts procurement, and maintaining up-to-date documentation.
  3. Supervision: Ability to manage and direct technicians, maintenance staff, and contract trades throughout equipment installation and conversion processes.


Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Pneumatic systems, Motion Control systems, Automated equipment systems
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD® 2023, Inventor 2023, MS Project


Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee mechanical and electrical installation checklists and schedules.
  • Procure and expedite materials for new or modified equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and maintain liaison between vendors and the plant.
  • Re-design components to reduce costs and resolve design issues.
  • Prepare work orders and direct maintenance and contract trades in equipment fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation.
  • Create and update installation documentation and drawings.
  • Perform initial equipment setup and debugging.
  • Interface with various departments to ensure efficient equipment operation.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for equipment and process issues.
  • Train staff on new equipment installation procedures and develop cost reduction plans.

Additional Information:

  • The position requires spending the majority of time on the production floor.
  • Strong practical mechanical aptitude and understanding of process variables (flow, temperature, rate, pressure, level) is essential.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drive trains, electrical, and pneumatic actuators is required.
  • Opportunities for additional assignments may be available based on performance, with potential travel to other plant locations.
