The Opportunity
The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President, Government Affairs to lead and expand our growing multidomain federal, state, and local advocacy portfolio in both the commercial and defense sectors of the uncrewed systems, robotics, and autonomy industry. In this pivotal role, you will drive the association’s efforts to influence policy and promote the interests of the uncrewed systems industry across various levels of government.
You will be responsible for…
- Legislative and Regulatory Oversight: Lead and manage legislative and regulatory affairs teams to monitor, analyze, and respond to relevant policy, legislative, and regulatory developments at federal, state, and local levels.
- Policy Advocacy: Represent the organization’s interests with government agencies, legislators, regulators, and key stakeholders, advocating for policies and regulations that support the organization’s goals. Position requires registering to lobby at the federal level and likely in certain states.
- Team Leadership and Development: Oversee and mentor the government affairs team, fostering professional development and ensuring effective performance in legislative and regulatory matters.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain relationships with policymakers, industry associations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to advance organizational priorities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary liaison with government officials and industry associations to ensure alignment and open communication on key issues.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory compliance requirements related to government affairs activities, identifying and managing potential risks.
- Issue Tracking and Reporting: Regularly update executive leadership and senior teammates on legislative, regulatory, and policy developments that impact the organization, with recommendations for proactive strategies.
- Budget Management: Manage the government affairs budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for legislative, regulatory, and advocacy activities.
- Public Relations Coordination: Work closely with public relations and communications teams to align messaging and public positions on regulatory and legislative matters.
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute government affairs strategies that advance organizational objectives and align with broader business goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 6-10 years of work-related experience. 8 years or more is preferred.
- Understanding of government relations, legislation and policy development; established relationships with key government figures; and skill in compiling, evaluating and presenting legislative information.
- Military and/or DoD experience is not required but is preferred.
- Capitol Hill experience is not required but is preferred.
- Superior communication and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Self-starter with excellent analytical and written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interest in uncrewed systems and robotics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
