Commodity Trading - KYC Analyst - Job Description:


  • Perform Know-Your-Counterparty / Third-Party Due Diligence on existing, new, and/or potential customers based on risk mitigation controls and certain trigger events.
  • Identifying domestic and international counterparty records that require further review and taking action to obtain and follow-up on the information and/or documentation requested.
  • Ensure that information and documentation provided by customers, from external data sources, and from your own reviews (e.g., websites and company registries) meet our requirements for verification.
  • Perform searches utilizing Internet sources and/or third-party vendors to obtain information on prospects and new or existing counterparties.
  • Communicate and follow up with counterparties when required to handle escalated or complicated cases with strong customer empathy as well as clear communication of decisions and policies.
  • Provide guidance and responses to daily inquiries from peers, front-line support, and management regarding due diligence matters and case analysis, when appropriate.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of KYC-related regulations and how they impact the business.
  • Assess the risk level of referred profiles that may or may not meet the risk criteria expected from escalations and escalate any suspicions and/or concerns.
  • Have a deep understanding of different business models, customer types, country risks, and regulatory requirements across multiple geographies.
  • Assist the compliance supervisor in internal and external audits and regulatory due diligence process-related query reviews.
  • Determine whether activity should be escalated for further review based on activity or alert review.
  • Collaborate with various support functions including Front-Office, Back-Office, Middle-Office, Legal, and Contract Administration to gather documents and related information.
  • Assess counterparty risk associated with different types of commodity counterparties (e.g. procedures, marketers, pipelines, utilities, and local distribution companies)


  • Qualifications:
  • A minimum bachelor's degree is required.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and expectations regarding identifying unusual or suspicious activity in connection with financial transactions, restrictions related to economic sanctions (e.g., OFAC), and the filing of suspicious activity reports.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in compliance and KYC management, including commodity trading business (e.g. Front-Office, Back-Office, and Middle-Office) Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption, and/or Economic Sanctions/Office of Foreign Assets Control alert reviews.
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to work well with others, along with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in various software applications, including Excel and Word. Power BI is a plus.
  • Experience with KYC tools, e.g., World Check and Watch Dog, etc.
  • Oil and Gas experience
  • Authorization to work for any company in the US without sponsorship.
