Mexico, United States Arthur Center Community Health Full time

Arthur Center Community Health’s Chief Executive Officer, Terry Mackey, will be retiring in the coming months after an impactful career of service in the cause of community mental health and clinical services including the last 27+ years leading the organization. A national search is underway to identify and recruit top-notch candidates to compete for this rewarding leadership opportunity.

This presents an unparalleled and transformative leadership chance to steer The Arthur Center, a $20m Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) deeply rooted in community health and comprehensive care services, through the evolving landscape of healthcare. The future holds the expansion of healthcare demands in the face of limited resources, the integration of behavioral health with physical healthcare, a heightened focus on outcomes, the impact of social determinants of health, prevention strategies, and escalating standards for quality, compliance, and public accountability. The incoming CEO will navigate these challenges while upholding The Arthur Center's mission of “Inspiring Community Health and Wellness.”

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Arthur Center, you will assume the lead role in guiding the organization towards achieving its mission. This entails overarching responsibility for the performance of the center across programmatic, administrative, and financial domains. You will lead the development of innovative programming strategies, cementing The Arthur Center's reputation as a cornerstone of community health impact. Your role involves guiding, mentoring, and empowering the executive leadership team while collaboratively setting and accomplishing programmatic and financial objectives that ensure the center’s long-term stability. Furthermore, you will cultivate a culture of excellence, service, and accountability, upholding these standards personally and across the organization.

As the Arthur Center’s most visible advocate, the CEO’s responsibilities extend to articulating the center's plans and policies to a wide array of stakeholders and fostering meaningful relationships and resources vital for achieving the center’s objectives. This includes active participation and engagement within the community, strengthening The Arthur Center’s role as a critical provider of comprehensive health services across Audrain, Callaway, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, and Monroe counties. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving forward The Arthur Center’s commitment to a patient-first approach, integrating behavioral health with physical healthcare, and enhancing the quality of life for those served.

ARTHUR CENTER

The Arthur Center, originally founded in January 1961 as the Audrain Missouri Child Guidance Clinic, has evolved significantly over the decades in response to changing mental health care needs and legislation. Established to address the increasing need for community-based mental health care, it became the first private, federally-funded community mental health center in the U.S. in 1968, named East Central Missouri Behavioral Health Center. By 1992, in honor of land donors Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Arthur, it was renamed Arthur Center and expanded its services to become a comprehensive regional mental health provider. Following financial challenges and a community-led initiative to retain local control, the Arthur Center reemerged in 2003 as a not-for-profit corporation, further expanding its services in 2013 to become a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Today, as Arthur Center Community Health, it continues to serve thousands annually, offering a wide range of mental health, substance abuse, and integrated clinical services across multiple facilities.

LOCATION

Located in Central Missouri, Mexico is a rural community of Audrain County. Mexico offers easy access to major cities while retaining the peace and tranquility of rural living. With a rich history and welcoming atmosphere, staff and Board members of the Arthur Center describe Mexico as large enough to blend while also being small enough to get to know people in a meaningful way. Mexico has an estimated population of 11,543 according to the 2020 U.S. Census.
