Norit is one of the global leaders in producing activated carbon, which plays a role of purifying material, de-coloring agent, and catalyst. The common applications include municipal water treatment, biogas, food & beverages, chemical and pharmaceutical production, refineries, etc. In Riga, Norit hosts a Global Business Services Centre (GBS) which supports our own international branches as well as works with external stakeholders. We have an exciting opportunity for Financial Controller to join our global finance team. The scope of this position is global, and this role is critical in ensuring the integrity and compliance of Norit's financial reporting while working with multiple finance stakeholders across all Norit locations.


As a Financial Controller your daily tasks will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing external financial statements – ensuring that Norit's financial statements comply with US GAAP and Dutch GAAP requirements and reviewing financial disclosures to ensure accuracy and completeness,
  • Preparation of the Financial statements and disclosures in accordance with Dutch GAAP,
  • Knowledge of Dutch Statutory requirements as well as AICPA standards for auditing,
  • Oversee global financial data consolidation, ensuring timely monthly earnings reporting,
  • Develop and maintain SOX control framework, assess controls, and manage testing strategies,
  • Coordinate with external auditors, addressing accounting issues and providing documentation,
  • Lead monthly balance sheet reviews, identify areas for improvement in financial performance,
  • Collaborate with GL and Finance Team on projects and monthly close activities, ensuring US GAAP compliance,
  • Keep tax and treasury groups informed, support initiatives like cash repatriations and debt issuance,
  • Assist in external reporting, address technical accounting issues, and monitor internal controls,
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, develop clear accounting policies, and communicate updates with the teams globally.


To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A university degree in Accounting or Finance is required,
  • ACCA, CPA or RA certification is required,
  • At least 5 years of prior experience in accounting within an international organization, demonstrating familiarity with global financial operations and regulations,
  • Previous experience with a Big4 firm in auditing and/or assurance or Tier 2 firm is highly preferred, but will also accept auditing, assurance or tax experience at a boutique firm,
  • Some knowledge of corporate taxes is preferred,
  • Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and other advanced Microsoft products is essential for data analysis, reporting, and presentation purposes,
  • In-depth knowledge of Finance/Accounting principles, IFRS, US GAAP and Dutch GAAP is required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are necessary. Fluency in English is a must for operating in a professional environment,
  • Strong deadline orientation and prioritization skills are essential for managing multiple tasks and meeting reporting requirements in a timely manner,
  • Prior experience in working effectively across global sites leading them towards common goals,
  • Ability to occasionally work later/earlier hours to collaborate with North American and European colleagues.
