A growing and purpose-driven international renewable energy developer focused on utility-scale solar and energy storage projects is seeking an associate transmission and interconnection engineer.


With an exciting growth runway and broad career opportunities, this role would suit an electrical engineer with experience of transmission and distribution including tariffs, planning, accessibility, and end-to-end interconnection process.


Internal analysis of development projects and strong communication skills will be required.


Location: Pittsburgh (hybrid) - relocation allowance available.

Level: Associate.

Salary: $90,000 to $110,000 base plus bonuses and benefits


The Role

  • Manage the interconnection process and monitor key milestones throughout the lifecycle of the project from initialization and development through to commissioning.
  • Perform and evaluate interconnection studies, identify schedule and risks in support of project development and due diligence.
  • Liaison with project developers on matters relating to interconnection, particularly cost and obstacles.
  • Negotiate and amend contractual agreements with Transmission Owners for potential commercial counter parties.
  • Review utility schedules and cost estimates.
  • Perform or coordinate internal studies, e.g. Power Flow, Substation Open Bay, transmission line route.
  • Forecast interconnection queue positions, costs and related studies.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team in reviewing interconnection-related design.
  • Stakeholder relationships with key utilities, ISOs, industry groups, regulators.


About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • 2+ years of transmission planning or system studies role with a utility, Regional Transmission Organization, or consultant.
  • Experience in transmission planning, grid operation and generator interconnection.
  • Experience in generation interconnection process and transmission tariffs in: PJM, MISO, NYISO, TVA, WECC or SPP.
  • Familiarity with power system modelling and transmission planning/generator interconnection studies.
  • Familiarity with PSSE (preferred) or PSLF and TARA.
  • Experience with estimating interconnection-related construction costs is preferred.
  • Ability to build relationships with utilities, ISOs, and industry representatives.
  • Experience with the AC design of utility scale solar and energy storage facilities and the ability to review and critique related engineering drawings.
