A dynamic and mission-driven global renewable energy developer specializing in large-scale solar and energy storage initiatives is in search of an associate engineer focused on transmission and interconnection.
This position offers a remarkable growth trajectory and diverse career possibilities, making it ideal for an electrical engineer with a background in transmission and distribution, including tariffs, planning, accessibility, and the comprehensive interconnection process.
Strong analytical skills for internal project assessments and excellent communication abilities will be essential.
Location: Pittsburgh (hybrid) - relocation assistance available.
Level: Associate.
Salary: $90,000 to $110,000 base plus bonuses and benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the interconnection process and track critical milestones throughout the project lifecycle from initiation and development to commissioning.
- Conduct and assess interconnection studies, identifying schedules and risks to support project development and due diligence.
- Collaborate with project developers on interconnection-related issues, particularly concerning costs and challenges.
- Negotiate and modify contractual agreements with Transmission Owners for potential commercial partners.
- Review utility schedules and cost assessments.
- Perform or coordinate internal studies, such as Power Flow, Substation Open Bay, and transmission line routing.
- Project interconnection queue positions, costs, and associated studies.
- Work with the engineering team to evaluate interconnection-related designs.
- Maintain stakeholder relationships with key utilities, ISOs, industry groups, and regulators.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in transmission planning or system studies within a utility, Regional Transmission Organization, or consultancy.
- Knowledge of transmission planning, grid operations, and generator interconnection.
- Familiarity with the generation interconnection process and transmission tariffs in regions such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, TVA, WECC, or SPP.
- Understanding of power system modeling and transmission planning/generator interconnection studies.
- Experience with PSSE (preferred) or PSLF and TARA.
- Proficiency in estimating interconnection-related construction costs is advantageous.
- Ability to foster relationships with utilities, ISOs, and industry stakeholders.
- Experience with AC design for utility-scale solar and energy storage facilities, along with the capability to review and critique relevant engineering drawings.
