Job Title: Tactical Buyer

Position Summary:

The Tactical Buyer is responsible for the day-to-day execution of procurement activities, including requesting quotations, negotiating pricing within Delegation of Authority (DoA) thresholds, and issuing accurate purchase orders. This role requires ensuring all orders, GL accounts, project numbers, and related documentation are correct. The Tactical Buyer secures the best procurement solutions (quality, price, timing) that meet customer needs while aligning with relevant strategies. Managing disputes and resolving issues throughout the procurement process is also a key responsibility.


Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Receive and verify procurement requests for conformity to operating methods.
  • Convert procurement requests into purchase orders.
  • Manage purchase order cancellations, rescheduling, and changes (quantity, price).
  • Ensure suppliers acknowledge P.O. receipt and provide delivery commitments.
  • Follow up and expedite procurement orders.
  • Ensure the accuracy of orders, GL accounts, project numbers, ship-to locations, supplier information, and relevant notes/comments on procurement order documents.
  • Ensure all supplier accounts payable do not fall into past due status and assist the Finance department in resolving invoice issues/discrepancies for timely payments.
  • Manage disputes and problem resolution.
  • Conduct local negotiations within DoA thresholds.
  • Manage RFx processes in e-ACQ within DoA limits.
  • Prepare procurement reports, including cost analysis.
  • Convert purchase requisitions to purchase orders on time.
  • Manage, action, and escalate buyer shortages.
  • Perform assigned roles and responsibilities as part of the integrated project/program team.
  • Lead actions to improve customer on-time delivery (OTD).
  • Maintain supplier aging at less than two days.
  • Manage workload while complying with established department KPIs.
  • Provide updates as requested by collaborating with internal areas (Engineering, Repairs, Planning, Warehouse, QA, etc.).
  • Implement and lead recovery meetings/Tiger teams.
  • Communicate project actions, owners, due dates, timelines, and escalations to management as requested.
  • Drive issues to closure with minimal supervision.
  • Regularly interface with Engineering, Supply Chain Operations, Regional Procurement Managers, Quality, and Program Management.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field with 2+ years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in requesting quotations, negotiating pricing within DoA thresholds, issuing accurate orders, and managing relevant documentation.
  • 2+ years of experience in securing the best procurement solutions (quality, price, timing) and managing disputes.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to drive assignments to successful completion.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to tackle tasks with determination, passion, and creativity.
  • Commitment to excellence, integrity, and a sense of urgency.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of strategic sourcing or supply chain experience.
  • SAP experience.
  • Aviation supply chain experience.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills within a complex organization.
  • Ability to interpret engineering parts lists, drawings, and BOM.
