Position Summary

The Director of Estimating leads the estimating team, responsible for developing accurate project cost estimates for construction or engineering projects. This role involves managing pre-construction estimating efforts, collaborating with various departments, and ensuring the alignment of project costs with company financial goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Oversight:

Manage and mentor a team of estimators, ensuring skill development and knowledge sharing.

• Oversee the workflow and productivity of the estimating department.

Strategic Estimating:

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to align estimating strategies with project goals.
• Develop and implement best practices, tools, and systems for cost estimation.

Project Bid Review:

• Review and approve estimates, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
• Oversee the bid process, ensuring timely submissions that meet client requirements.
• Review subcontractor and supplier pricing, ensuring competitive and reliable estimates.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with sales, project management, and operations to align estimates with project requirements, client expectation, and company objectives.
• Provide regular updates and reports on project cost trends, budget status, and estimate accuracy.
• Work closely with clients to understand project goals and expectations.

Risk Management:

• Identify and assess project risks and cost uncertainties.
• Ensure contingencies are built into estimates to mitigate potential cost overruns.
• Analyze historical data to improve future estimating processes and accuracy.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field; advanced degree or certifications (PMP, LEED) are preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction or engineering cost estimating.
• Prior experience in a leadership role managing estimating teams.
• Proficiency in estimating software such as FabTrol and MS Excel.Experience with project management and ERP systems is an asset.
• Strong negotiating skills with the ability to resolve issues with vendors, subcontractors, and clients effectively.
