Position Mission: The mission of the QA & Compliance Specialist is to ensure that our products consistently taste great and are safe to eat. You will be involved throughout the product development, scale-up, commercialization, and production processes.

 

Position Details: This is a full-time salaried position with medical/dental/vision health benefits and stock options. Compensation is commensurate with experience. We would consider part-time work for the right candidate. This hybrid position requires approximately 50-75% of time on in person activities weekly in our office & lab in Philadelphia, PA. The breakdown between work-from-office and work-from-home time may vary week to week depending on project stage.

 

You will work on high-level strategy and dive into details alongside our core team. As you work closely with leadership, you can shape the company’s direction far into the future. The ideal candidate thrives on solving problems, respects and recognizes the complexity behind quality assurance, and cares deeply about food and nutrition.

 

 What You Must Have:

  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience - food industry experience is a must.
  • Ambitious achiever – you are deeply interested in making an impact through your career, energized and emboldened by working alongside other highly motivated people, thrive on being part of a creative and scrappy small team, and love building systems and processes from the ground up.
  • Independently motivated – you are in your element when given a goal and you can pave your own path to get there. You are comfortable identifying areas of need and independently developing your own projects and tasks based on them.
  • Detail oriented – a lot of job descriptions say this, but we cannot emphasize enough how important this is for this role. If you are not a details person, you will not enjoy this job.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to articulate your own thoughts and listen to others’ to work together to the best solution.
  • B.S. or higher in food science, microbiology, or related field.
  • Strong PC skills with proficiency in MS Office & Google Suite.

 

Core Responsibilities:

Product quality & system development

  • Build and manage an executable internal quality assurance program encompassing the following: FDA compliance, record retention, Food Safety Program, specifications, sensory program & protocol, certifications, shelf life, Prop 65 compliance, etc.
  • Design and execute shelf stability studies for products in the R&D phase.
  • Develop quality and safety protocols for retention samples.
  • Research and test the shelf life of constituent ingredients and ingredient blends.


Product compliance

  • Work with R&D to ensure that products in development meet relevant allergen, claim, and certification requirements.
  • Liaise with third-party manufacturers to fulfill both parties’ requirements for quality program compliance.


Documentation

  • Manage ingredient documentation from industrial suppliers to ensure traceability for ingredients, blends, and production.
  • Validate certificate of analyses for finished goods.
  • Write finished product specifications for newly commercialized products and specifications for product concept samples for potential clients.
