SQL Database Developer Consutlant

The SQL Database Developer oversees the development, adaptation, and organization of databases to meet Information Services' long-term goals in aligning database technology with business needs. Collaborating closely with the SQL Database Administrator and other Information Services personnel is crucial to ensure the reliability and integrity of production databases. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining database management systems while implementing robust security measures to safeguard against potential threats. Effective communication skills are essential for interaction with both technical counterparts and business stakeholders. Responsibilities encompass database maintenance, alignment of logical data models with business requirements, creation of stored procedures, triggers, SSIS, and DTS packages, development of reports using business intelligence tools, documentation creation, and participation in disaster recovery planning and testing.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain custom SQL databases, including the Data Warehouse, covering database development, security, testing, and production support.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and vendors to define system requirements, design data models, and database architecture.
  • Utilize Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for report development, ensuring accuracy and quality, and create stored procedures, triggers, and jobs for data imports and exports.
  • Coordinate with Information Service staff to address Microsoft SQL server issues, ensuring proper communication and managing business expectations.
  • Ensure applications are up-to-date and perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Take charge of assigned projects, coordinating with relevant departments for effective execution, including design input, project planning, and change management.
  • Fulfill other assigned duties to maintain service excellence and adhere to departmental policies and external regulations.
  • Engage in continuous training and education to meet departmental requirements and demonstrate professional conduct in alignment with service standards and organizational policies.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical training with 5+ years’ experience in developing and supporting reporting solutions within hospital/health/financial systems required
  • Strongly prefer experience with MEDITECH or eCW data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server database development for reporting needs
  • Skilled in database modeling, monitoring, utilization, and security
  • Expertise in report writing tools such as Microsoft SSRS, Microsoft Access, and Tableau; familiarity with .NET framework is advantageous
  • Ability to troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server database issues and understand healthcare data models for integrated delivery systems
  • Competence in communication, technical documentation, and resolving healthcare application database, interface, and report issues
  • Capable of managing special projects, coordinating with vendors, providing regular status reports, and staying updated on new database applications and technologies.
