Job Description:
As a Unix Application Production Support Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and availability of our Unix/Linux-based applications in a production environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize our application stack, ensuring high performance and reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and application health using monitoring tools.
- Investigate and resolve incidents and problems reported by users or detected through monitoring.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurring issues.
- Manage configurations of applications and underlying Unix/Linux systems to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Apply security patches, bug fixes, and updates to maintain system integrity and protect against vulnerabilities.
- Optimize application and system configurations to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Forecast future resource requirements and plan capacity upgrades as needed.
- Coordinate with development teams to deploy application releases and troubleshoot deployment issues.
- Follow established procedures for incident management, change management, and documentation.
- Provide 24/7 support through on-call rotations to address critical issues and ensure uninterrupted availability of services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Unix/Linux system administration and application support.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and automation tools such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze log files, stack traces, and system metrics.
- Knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git or SVN.
- Experience with database management systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Unix/Linux system administration (e.g., RHCE, LPIC, or equivalent).
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, etc.).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with ITIL or other IT service management frameworks.
