Overview:
The Technical Editor is responsible for proofreading, product copy, and brand copy. This person will be her go-to for support. We have a review workflow within our CMS. This person will be responsible for learning how to use the workflow to review copy, know how to apply changes, approve them, validate once something is published, and know where to go on website to make sure everything looks good before moving to next task. The Technical Editor will also delegate some of her direct tasks as we get overflow. We are in the middle of two product launches, an anniversary, with extra itinerary changes given the global landscape. Looking to train up quickly, able to turn out error free copy. Chicago Style; short & long form; digital. CMS= combination of Magnolia and Adobe depending on where we’re at in the migration. Areas transitioning at different times, could be working in both systems in parallel.
Required Functional Skills/Tools:
- Chicago Style
- Copywriting/copyediting/proofreading experience
- Journalism or publishing experience helpful (print or digital doesn’t matter)
- Could be CMS platform or PM workflow (i.e. Workfront, Asana)
Years of Experience Expectation: 1-3years
Position Description:
Reporting to the Technical Editor, the Assistant Technical Editor is responsible for ongoing management of accurate, error-free copy in the content management system (CMS). Position works closely with numerous teams—including CMS, Product Development and Management, Onboard and Recruitment Marketing, Digital Content and Trade—to ensure the consistency and integrity of the brand voice and style in all generated content, across various print and digital platforms. Requires strong copyediting and proofreading skills; extensive knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style; meticulous attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and ability to multitask and meet deadlines. Must be a proactive self-starter willing to do what is needed to complete a task while working collaboratively with others, building rapport and facilitating cross-functional teamwork.
Core Responsibilities:
- Under the Technical Editor’s direction, manage and review newly generated and updated content in CMS, following prescribed specifications and established author-editor publishing workflow. Involving: proofreading (mechanical errors such as grammar, spelling and punctuation), copyediting (syntax, clarity, coherence and style) and comprehensive/substantive editing (accuracy/fact-checking, completeness, logical development of ideas and appropriateness).
- Possess deep understanding and knowledge of all product lines and Chicago Manual of Style to ensure all content within and across (where applicable) products adheres to a consistent message and style.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, writers and/or managers to produce high-quality content that is factually correct, error-free and meets company standards.
- Assist in the maintenance of the Content Library, an index of content generated for marketing and brand communication, to provide visibility and promote collaboration among cross-functional teams within SharePoint and/or a CMS.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Evidence of good work habits including but not limited to being on time, following workplace policies, arriving prepared for meetings and events, being responsive and following through on all supervisor and staff requests.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field or equivalent work experience, preferably in marketing, travel and/or publishing/journalism
- At least 1–3 years’ experience producing editorial for both print and digital communications, along with managing content and a team
- Strong understanding of the Chicago Manual of Style
- Familiarity with CMS platforms
- Basic understanding of variable data, SEO best practices and accessibility standards for copywriting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 apps, including SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat
- Exceptional communication and writing skills
High attention to detail and ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
