Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test Engineer


We are currently seeking a full time, EMC Test Engineer for a facility in Warren, OH (44483).


The EMC Test Engineer is involved from the beginning of the development life cycle to execute test cases that ensure electronic design issues are surfaced early in the design process. The role has responsibility for validation of electronic hardware used in automotive applications. The Test Engineer reviews, creates and executes test plans of electronic hardware and provides support in the debugging of systems. This individual works cross functionally with engineers and technicians both within our company and with outside test labs. He/she also actively and constructively participates in improvement teams and in problem solving.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the validation planning and execution efforts of new and legacy electronic product EMC test programs.
  • Create, manage, and execute test plans to take a product from prototype through to production using internal resources as well as contracted test labs.
  • Create, document, and maintain testing procedures and test reports.
  • Aligns test requirements with various industry and international standards as well as customer requirements.
  • Manage and perform testing at outside labs: quotations, scheduling tests, witness of tests and test reports.
  • Debug product test issues and provide directions to test team performing tests.
  • Work with Program Managers to enforce customer milestones.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement EMC/EMI/SI testing of automotive electronic product test programs.
  • Determine equipment requirements to perform specified EMC/EMI/SI testing.
  • Procure necessary equipment, tools and materials.
  • Design and develop necessary test fixtures for product EMC testing.
  • Manage the purchasing process for new equipment purchases.
  • Generate and review test plans and test reports for accuracy as needed.
  • Provide test consultation on product test methods.
  • Determine root cause of product test failures including customer consultation of product re-design to meet test requirements.
  • Ensure compliance to A2LA policies, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.


Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology or Electronics Technology
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience

Key Competencies:

  • Experience testing electronic modules for use in automotive or heavy-duty environments.
  • Proficient in the application and use of electrical and electronic lab test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Power Analyzers, Differential Voltage probes, Current Transformers, meters, thermocouples, etc.
  • Background in analog and digital circuitry
  • RF testing
  • Familiarity with automotive communications such as Controller Area Network (CAN) and CANoe/CANalyzer
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; Ability to organize and summarize data and plans in presentable formats: Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, other.
  • A high level of initiative and a proactive nature.
  • Builds safety, quality and compliance into all actions; committed to continuous learning and self-improvement.
  • Knowledge of A2LA policies, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
