POSITION SUMMARY


The Deputy Chief Equity and Impact Officer serves as the right hand of the Chief Equity and Impact Officer and assists the Chief in managing the impact portfolio of Metro United Way. This position will help define our mission and vision for community impact and ensure that impact programs and strategies are aligned. This position provides strategic and tactical support in advancing impact priorities, managing, and coaching of staff, representing MUW in the community and ensuring Impact Department goals and objectives are met. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Deputy Chief Equity and Impact Officer’s job responsibilities include:


Daily Work

·      Provide leadership to ensure coordination and alignment among the Thriving Kids, Strong Households and Equitable Community pillars; cultivate multi-generational strategies through an equitable and seven-county lens.

 

·      Provide leadership in deepening and developing collaborative community approaches and collective impact models to establish community needs, strategies to address those needs and define outcomes. 

  • Provide professional development, mentoring and supervision to direct reports and others on the Impact team as needed.


Development of the Impact Portfolio


  • Work in close collaboration with the Chief Equity and Impact Officer and the Directors of Thriving Kids, Strong Households and Equitable Community to develop and refine strategy for impact.


  • Evaluate and assess the current portfolio of impact projects and programming.


  • Develop and implement transition plans for current projects and programming that will be sunsetted
  • Develop ideas for new programming and work with the grants team to identify new funding sources.


  • Ensure Impact staff understand the vision of organization and their link to equity and make connections between visions and day to day activities.


  • Develop culture, expectations, and skills around equity and MUW visions for all Impact staff, through upfront training and ongoing teamwork processes.


  • Develop a partnership/ecosystem model.


  • Identify and support relationship building with core partners.


  • Support needs assessment work.


  • Support staff in completing research on best/emerging practices within their pillars.


  • Facilitate cross-collaboration and learning across directors/pillars.


  • Support a framework of collaboration between the Impact and Policy teams.


  • Support the Chief in development of a budget that aligns programmatic strategy with budgetary needs.


Organization-wide Strategy Advancement


  • Work closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to refine and define the vision and strategy for the organization.


  • Support organizational transition to defined strategic goals by coordinating regular progress/strategy meetings to ideate, brainstorm and problem-solve - across leadership and cross functional staff teams.


  • Work closely with the Chief of Staff and Human Resources to develop annual training calendar to achieve alignment with staff on the vision, purpose, function and methods of strategic change towards racial equity and organizational transformation.


  • Develop an internal learning culture and strategies for the organization that support vision and strategy, including setting aside regular time for personal learning and development.


Relationship Management


·      Represent Metro United Way in the community, serving on committees, boards, etc. where appropriate. 

 

·      Support the Chief Equity and Impact Officer and Impact staff in maintaining and deepening relationships with community partners. 


  • Cultivate relationships with organizations that can further MUW’s analysis and work and support MUW’s ability to step further into transformational work.


  • Act effectively as a facilitator and lead coordinator of a backbone organization within a collective impact model.


  • Support and facilitate connections to national public health agencies and racial justice organizations that can provide financial and technical assistance.


  • Increase relationships between grassroots and grasstops spaces locally and across the state to build policy power.


  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Equity and Impact Officer.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Education/Experience: minimum of seven years’ experience in a large non-profit, corporation, or similar organization with a level of complexity and visibility consistent with Metro United Way; supervisory experience required.
  • Adaptability: ability to adjust plans and strategies as needed in response to changing conditions and other external factors.
  • Facilitation skills: Experience with community planning, community organization and working in a team planning process to bring a group to consensus.  
  • Must be able to take initiative, create and execute strategies, demonstrate leadership, work independently, and produce consistently high-quality work.
  • Strong public speaking skills, including the ability to appeal to a broad audience.  

·      Strong knowledge of the human service system.  

·      Superior verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate complex concepts in a concise and compelling manner.

·      Skill in networking and coalition-building skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise employees.
  • Demonstrated skill with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Must be a hands-on, independent self-starter who is effective in a fast-paced environment and capable of prioritizing multiple, changing tasks.
