Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Publicist to join Rachel Harrison Communications in our Travel and Tourism division. This person should have a keen understanding of the media landscape and strong public relations skills. They should have prior agency experience working on public relations, with solid media contacts. The Senior Publicist will support with account management and tasks will include proactive and reactive media relations, strategy writing, creative writing (press releases, media alerts, content, etc.) and creative brainstorming. Senior Publicists manage junior account team members and have some experience with new business (assisting with proposal writing, researching relevant business leads). Overall this person is a proactive leader, who is eager to be pitching and driving programming for our hotel clients (many in the luxury sector).
Responsibilities
- Media relations is a key function of this role. Conduct proactive and reactive media pitching. Successfully pitch stories and regularly meet with media to deliver high-quality results
- Supports the creation of meaningful and impactful comprehensive public relations strategies and plans
- Act as a day-to-day client contact for a selection of accounts
- Seek out creative ideas and opportunities to identify and cultivate story ideas for media pitching and participate in brainstorming sessions for clients
- Create key assets for accounts including press releases, fact sheets, biographies, messaging, media alerts, agendas, and recaps
- Follow industry and client category trends and regularly share insights, thoughts, and key findings as it relate to competitors
- Delegate effectively, setting clear expectations and deadlines for junior team members
- Manage quality of work on multiple accounts with professionalism and support team leaders.
- Supports new business proposals with research, brainstorming ideas and proposal creation
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in public relations; agency preferred
- Passion for the travel industry with hotel and tourism client experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple accounts with ease and professionalism
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Effective organizational and project management skills
- Strong, creative writer with experience crafting assets (press releases, bios, media alerts, etc)
- Ability to manage the junior team as a mentor
- Delegate work effectively
- Lead by example; demonstrate strong work ethic
- This role must be based in NYC and is a hybrid role with two days a week in the office
