Position Overview

Title: Continuous Improvement Manager

Reporting To: Director of Continuous Improvement

The Continuous Improvement Manager will spearhead and collaborate with diverse cross-functional teams to effectively implement Operational Excellence practices and methodologies. This role involves regular interaction with both internal and external stakeholders. The Continuous Improvement Manager will strategize and implement lean manufacturing principles to enhance safety, quality, and timely delivery of products and processes. The responsibilities include planning for productivity improvement, waste reduction, process reengineering, and technology integration. Additionally, the role requires executing cost-saving measures to improve cost efficiencies and adherence to manufacturing budgets. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering cost savings, establishing strategic practices, enhancing services, and demonstrating strong leadership. Exceptional communication skills with all stakeholders are essential.


Key Responsibilities

  • Policy and Program Implementation: Support the Plant Manager in implementing policies and programs to maximize yield, throughput, capacity, and ensure high quality and low costs.
  • Operational Excellence Strategy: Lead the deployment of the company's Operational Excellence strategy to achieve world-class value chain processes.
  • Coaching and Analysis: Provide coaching and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reviews and analysis of current processes using operational metrics and reports.
  • Meeting Support: Prepare data for weekly meetings and Monthly Operational Review Meetings.
  • KPI and Cost Performance: Collaborate with the Plant Manager and other managers to deliver operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and cost performance.
  • Quality Improvement: Work with the Quality Assurance Team to enhance quality results and ensure consistent product quality.
  • Production Planning: Assist in optimizing production planning and scheduling.
  • Strategy Development and Execution: Develop and execute strategies with the Plant Manager for operational success and daily process improvement (MOS/RCA/TPM/5S and other strategies as needed).
  • Continuous Improvement: Utilize KPIs to benchmark and drive continuous improvement strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with leaders in safety, quality, procurement, planning, warehouse, logistics, maintenance, finance, etc., to execute key initiatives and strategies that drive quality, yield, throughput, and manufacturing savings.
  • Cost Control and Performance: Set up cost control standards, waste reduction, and production processes to maximize performance.
  • Departmental Goals and Procedures: Establish and enforce departmental goals and procedures as directed by leadership.
  • Operational Analysis: Conduct insightful, ad hoc analyses to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues.
  • Data Management: Ensure all critical production and quality data is captured in the company's systems and work to develop the production and quality reports.
  • Sustainability: Drive the sustainability of the Management Operating System.
  • Training and Development: Train and develop the team in Opex Tools.
  • Audit Support: Conduct audits to support the sustainability of systems and processes.
  • Kaizen Activities: Lead, train, and coach Kaizen activities.
  • Backup for Production Manager: Act as a backup for the Production Manager.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.


Position Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field is required. Five (5) years of relevant managerial experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of plant experience in the food, agri-service, pharmaceutical, or chemical industry is required. If substituting experience in lieu of a degree, a total of ten (10) years of relevant experience is necessary.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience with LEAN, TPM, and Six Sigma is highly preferred.
  • Cost-Conscious Focus: Past experience in roles focusing on cost reduction projects is required.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to build relationships with stakeholders to foster close working relationships and openness is required.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical disciplines, production personnel, and executives, both internal and external, are required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Multitasking: Ability to function and multi-task effectively in a manufacturing environment is required.
