We are seeking qualified candidates for an Environmental Protection Specialist in the Environmental Compliance and Services Branch. This is a developmental position that is located in the Environmental Division within the Public Works Department. The Environmental Division is responsible for aspects of the environmental protection program at NBSD. This position is responsible for providing environmental program support to ensure base operations comply with federal, state, and local environmental compliance regulations.


Primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:

  • Supporting various environmental programs such as Hazardous Waste Management, Installation Restoration, Water Quality, Air Quality, Pollution Prevention, Oil and Hazardous Substance Spill Contingency, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure, and related programs.
  • Assisting in field visits and field work to conduct environmental inspections, site investigations, and surveys to determine environmental compliance.
  • Assisting in preparing draft correspondence, technical reports, field logs, and inspection reports.
  • Assisting in making recommendations to resolve non-compliance issues.


The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  1. Knowledge of one or more environmental compliance programs or related fields, including but not limited to: National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); Air Quality; Water Quality; Hazardous Waste; Pollution Prevention; and Spill Response.
  2. Following guidelines to assist in completion of day to day environmental compliance.
  3. Recognizing potential or existing environmental non-compliance issues, hazards, or violations.
  4. Gathering data and documenting observations to report information on environmental activities.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must hold U.S. Citizenship
  • Aged 18 or older at time of hire
