PostgreSQL Database Administrator

6-Month Contract-to-Hire

Richardson, TX OR Chicago, IL


Our Fortune 500 health insurance client is hiring a PostgreSQL DBA to support their Claims Modernization effort. In this role, you will be responsible for migrating their applications to PostgreSQL to enhance their claims processing capabilities by improving operational efficiency. We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to provide consultancy and best practices building out multi-node clusters with high availability to support a large data sample.


Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in support of the claims modernization project.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and security of PostgreSQL databases used in the project.
  • Perform regular database backups, restores, and disaster recovery tasks to safeguard data integrity.
  • Support data migration activities, including data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from legacy systems to the new PostgreSQL databases.
  • Monitor and analyze database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Implement and fine-tune indexing, partitioning, and query optimization strategies to enhance performance.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, designs, and procedures related to the claims modernization project.
  • Prepare and deliver regular status reports on database performance, migration progress, and project milestones.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator with a strong focus on performance tuning and optimization.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data migration and integration projects.
  • Familiarity with claims processing systems or similar enterprise applications is a plus.
  • Proficiency in SQL and PL/pgSQL for PostgreSQL.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams.
  • Experience with cloud-based PostgreSQL deployments (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure PostgreSQL) preferred.
