Ave Maria Press, a Catholic publishing company located in Notre Dame, Indiana, has an immediate opening for an experienced part-time human resource manager to oversee all areas of HR functions. Reporting directly to the CEO, the HR Manager will collaborate closely with the senior leadership team to manage people operations, cultivate a positive workplace culture, enhance employee satisfaction, facilitate hiring processes, and ensure effective onboarding and retention programs. The HR Manager plays a critical role in recruiting, developing, and retaining a staff who can contribute to our mission to set hearts on fire as the best Catholic publisher in the country. This role entails comprehensive HR duties and functions for our team of approximately 40 employees. The position requires 25-30 hours per week onsite at our office in Notre Dame, Indiana.


Key Responsibilities:

- Lead full-cycle recruiting processes, from role definition to hiring. Proactively identify staffing needs and define recruiting plans in collaboration with senior leadership

- Provide guidance and coaching to managers and leadership on retention, compensation, employee relations, and HR policies

- Manage and improve on-boarding and off-boarding activities and workflows

- Foster a culture of community and trust and support our leadership team’s ability to champion strategic initiatives in their day-to-day management priorities

- Collaborate with our finance team to maintain our competitive benefits program and manage administration and communication of benefits information to employees

- Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and industry best practices, overseeing the development and management of employee handbooks, policies, and procedures

- Manage our compensation bench-marking and annual increases along with championing our annual performance review program, ensuring all reviews are completed on schedule with accuracy, consistency, and effective feedback and goals for employees - Maintain accurate employee records, reports, and logs to comply with EEO regulations.

- Submit timekeeping information to payroll processing company and manage bi-weekly payroll.

- Conduct workplace investigations, including preparing questions, factual summaries, and making recommendations accordingly

- Lead employee wellness initiatives and social events including annual Christmas party, milestone celebrations, employee appreciation day, company picnics, and other events as decided upon


Desired Education and Experience:

-Bachelor’s degree in human resources preferred

-5+ years of HR experience

-PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification(s) preferred

-Experience in outsourced payroll processing


Additional Skills

-Strong judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality Excellent oral, presentation, and written communication skills

-Ability to interact effectively with all employees

-Excellent time management with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work

-Knowledge of the Catholic faith and teachings preferred

-Attention to detail and problem solving skills

-Proficient in MS Office

-Knowledge of TruPay payroll processing a plus
