POSITION SCOPE:

The Electrical Project Engineer works within the Engineering Department and interfaces with the project engineers assigned to the three major operating departments (Paper Machines, Pulp Mill, Utilities) with electrical/controls aspects of their projects. Also, develops and manages mill projects that are primarily for the replacement or installation of electrical equipment, controls, and instrumentation. Works with operations, maintenance, and process control to develop and prioritize electrical/instrumentation projects for the mill capital project list. Manages all aspects of electrical focused projects, including schedule, budget, and effectiveness, from original scope definition through specification, design, installation, and start-up.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a safe working environment in all interactions with mill personnel and contractors. Manage projects to ensure that implementation is achieved safely. Ensure that projects take safety into account in their design and construction for both operations and maintenance activities. Promote the use of PROCards by contractors for hazard recognition and proper adherence to mill safety policies. Make regular safety contacts and conduct weekly safety audits to encourage contractors and mill personnel to engage in safe behaviors.
  • Projects shall be managed and installed in accordance with all relevant state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Work with operating, maintenance, and process control groups to develop a list of potential electrical/instrumentation capital projects to be included in the mill capital plan. Assist operations and maintenance in defining the scope of each project and performing preliminary economic evaluations as required for cost reduction, production increase, or quality improvement projects.
  • Utilize the mill capital plan to develop detailed project definitions and scopes which will be used in the writing of Capital Allocation Requests.
  • Estimate project costs and forecast quarterly outlays of funds for the successful completion of each project.
  • Work with vendors to size, specify and obtain quotes for any, and all equipment that may be required to fulfill the requirements of each project. Evaluate vendor equipment proposals from both economic and technical standpoints.
  • Work with and manage contractors and engineering consultants, as needed, to complete the design, installation, mill integration, and start-up of each project.
  • Manage the budget of each project by writing requisitions for material and labor relevant to completion within the project scope. Any major revisions to the scope of a project will require the completion and approval of a supplemental Capital Allocation Request.
  • Maintain the project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities and removing roadblocks.
  • Conduct regular project updates and review meetings with both operations and maintenance personnel. Periodically attend area MOPS meetings and outage meetings to provide updates on project activities.
  • Attend weekly engineering update meetings with the other project engineers to discuss project status.
  • Participate in all Macon Mill and department Annual Outage planning meetings to clearly communicate project timelines, and implementation strategies. All projects should fit within department outage windows and not impact shutdown or start-up times. Provide milestone timelines for all critical path and process intensive projects to be included in the Macon Mill Annual Outage Book. Attend all department meetings during the Annual Outage to provide updates on project progress.
  • Maintain project data including manuals, drawings, specifications, scope documents, calculations, reports, etc. and publish to the appropriate project folder on the network. Additionally, file drawings, manuals, and other relevant project documentation in the engineering archives upon completion of the project.
  • Provide project documentation to operations for their use in developing training packages for operators. Information should be provided in a timely manner to allow for proper training of operators prior to commissioning and start-up.
  • Provide lists of recommended spare parts to the appropriate area Maintenance Engineer for proper setup of needed items in the storeroom. Provide manuals and equipment specific information for the creation or modification of Functional Locations, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules in SAP.
  • Provide information to the process control department relevant to the control logic and operation of new equipment and systems.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the E&I Superintendent and department so that projects are successfully integrated and supported.
  • Develop and maintain mill electrical specifications as needed for project implementation.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Background in project management in a paper mill environment preferred. Ten years of relevant capital project management experience.
  • Practical (hands-on) experience working in a Plant / Manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred, other degrees with an electrical focus will be considered with more than 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Multi-tasking skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines on a continuous basis.
  • Effective negotiation experience with Vendors, Suppliers, Contractors, Internal Resources, etc.
  • Strong design and system troubleshooting skills required.
  • Working knowledge of SAP system preferred.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills and ability to lead in a fast-paced environment.

Pay Range: $101,840.00 - $135,755.00
