Job description
  • The School Counselor is responsible for assisting and supporting clients through the entire treatment experience from client assignment through discharge.
  • The School Counselor determines whether the client needs additional treatment.
  • Provide clinical and supportive counseling services through in school supportive services, PSR groups, TBOS services and all I.M.P.A.C.T. Camps that are held throughout the year.
  • Deliver evidence-based treatment intervention (i.e., CBT, Trauma-Focused Care, DBT).
  • Provide in-depth clinical assessment, diagnosis of clinical conditions, treatment plans, and intervention under the supervision of a licensed clinician, including one of the following: TBOS and Outpatient Therapy.
  • Encourage clients to express their feelings and develop insight into themselves and their lives.
  • Be willing to work with individuals, families, children, teens, and people from all walks of life.
  • Implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Be able to diagnose using DSM-5 criteria.
  • Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment as required by HIPAA regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports, including client logs, progress notes, HIPAA compliance documents, etc. per client need and funding requirements.
  • Writing skills and access to a computer is a must.
  • Refer clients to community resources or specialists, as necessary.
  • Act as client advocates in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Keep up to date with new developments in their field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and networking.
  • You may be responsible for completing Initial Assessments, Treatment Plans, Group and TBOS Sessions, and Discharge planning. You will also be responsible for accessing safety concerns, safety planning, and crisis interventions with supervisor’s guidance and approval. You will also be responsible for attending treatment team meetings or clinical staffing’s, and case conferences scheduled by supervisors.
  • Facilitate psycho-educational classes and/or groups such as independent living skills, anger management, behavior management, substance abuse, Consent, Life Skills, and other groups as requested.

Requires a minimum of a Masters degree in a human services, mental health or related field of experience from an accredited college/university.

  • One year of experience working with children and families in behavioral health care setting required.
  • Good understanding of family systems theory and treatment approach.
  • Must be proficient with using a computer operating system and an EHR system.
  • Must be able to perform duties in a school setting.
  • Must have experience facilitating skills based or educational groups or the willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to pass a Level 2 background screen and drug test.
