Job Title:

School Security Counselor

About the Role:

The School Security Counselor is a vital member of the Algiers Charter School Association team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and property on school campuses.

Key Responsibilities:

Patrol and monitor school hallways, stairwells, bathrooms, cafeteria, and outside facilities to prevent and respond to potential safety threats.

Assist with supervision during breakfast and lunch periods, morning arrival, and afternoon dismissal.

Monitor campus during school hours to prevent fires, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.

Investigate and secure buildings at the request of the supervisor.

Maintain alertness for problems likely to disrupt the educational process or be injurious to persons or property.

Correct or report conditions hazardous to the health and safety of pupils, the public, and staff.

Establish a positive working relationship with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the community.

Assist students in resolving conflicts in a positive and constructive manner through conflict resolution strategies and mediation techniques.

Refer students to the appropriate administrator in cases of flagrant or repeated violations of school regulations.

Screen persons entering school grounds and report the presence of unauthorized persons.

Operate a two-way radio to communicate with school and security personnel.

Respond to calls regarding classroom disturbances, behavior problems, or related situations.

Prepare required written reports of incidents and maintain security records, logs, and reports.

Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Minimum of two years of security experience.

Must successfully pass a drug screening test, have a current Louisiana Driver's License, and be able to drive.

Oral and written communication skills.

Mediation services and conflict resolution techniques.

Record-keeping techniques.

Operation of a computer and related software applications.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

Working Conditions:

The School Security Counselor will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interactions with students, staff, and the community.

The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The School Security Counselor will be required to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

The position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods.
