Key Responsibilities:

  • Stay abreast of federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations. Interpret laws and advise management on compliance requirements.
  • Develop, review, and update company policies and procedures related to environmental protection, occupational health, and workplace safety.
  • Assess potential environmental, health, and safety risks associated with company operations. Develop risk management strategies and ensure effective implementation.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on state and federal environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act.
  • Consistently interacting with TCEQ and/or EPA.
  • Manage or support litigation and investigations related to environmental, health, and safety matters. Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed.
  • Conduct or oversee environmental impact assessments for company projects. Advise on mitigation measures and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to management, operations, and other departments on EHS matters. Participate in cross-functional teams to address related issues.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports and disclosures related to environmental, health, and safety performance.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging environmental, health, and safety issues and trends. Recommend proactive strategies and adjustments to policies and practices as necessary.


Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active state bar membership in good standing.
  • 3+ years of experience practicing law with a focus on environmental, health, and safety compliance, preferably in a corporate or regulatory setting.
  • Exposure to TCEQ and/or EPA.
  • Experience in litigation, investigations, and risk management related to environmental, health, and safety matters is preferred.
