Responsibilities

  • Oversee booking and accuracy for all outbound shipments and select inbound shipments.
  • Develop and monitor key logistics metrics such as pickup schedules, delivery performance, transportation costs, and order accuracy.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage transportation agreements with shipping partners.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis to identify opportunities for performance improvements and cost reductions.
  • Provide timely and accurate routing updates to internal teams (e.g., Production Planning, Accounting, Sales, and Warehouse) and external vendors or carriers as needed.
  • Track outbound shipments, prepare freight costs, and input/report required activity data; coordinate freight estimates and costs.
  • Create financial and transactional spreadsheets and reports to support cost accounting, budgeting, and projections related to freight costs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues (e.g., system errors, carrier problems), and identify alternative solutions as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with relevant departments to address and resolve logistics challenges.
  • Execute tasks with efficiency and attention to detail, adapting to shifting priorities as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, local, and company regulations, including standards related to sanitation, safety, transportation, and HACCP programs.


Educational and Requirements

  • Associate of Arts (A.A.) or similar required; Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Business or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in warehouse shipping and receiving logistics.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn about the Food Processing and Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industries.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
  • Proactive and solution-focused mindset.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, production, and shipping scheduling; ability to quickly learn specifics related to meat products.
  • Proficiency with ERP software systems.
  • Understanding of USDA requirements and HACCP plans.
  • Knowledge of relevant Federal, State, local, and company regulations, with the ability to quickly learn new requirements.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel including PivotTables).
  • Strong skills in budgeting, cost accounting, and cost management.
  • Effective project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop contingency plans.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, targets, and goals.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively.


Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Familiarity with best practices in supply chain management.
  • Ability to leverage data for enhancing logistics efficiency.

  • Knowledge of warehouse and transportation management.
